Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza? What did you think . . . would it be good for a honeymoon? We are going on a 7 day cruise for our honeymoon but we are starting out in Orlando for about 2 days and would like to stay very close to Disney. I have always stayed on property in the past, but for 2 days it's not really worth it (no EMHs the day we are going to the parks). Please let me know . . . and thanks in advance for the info!

I stayed there in the late 90s. I thought it was one of the nicer non-disney hotels that I've stayed at. I would still consider looking around at its competitors. As far as Honeymoon goes, perhaps you might like the Ospreyland Gaylord Resort -- I'm not sure what the official name is now. I've only been inside (never stayed) it's a beautiful place and borders Disney property.

Hope some of this is helpful.... Congrats on getting married!!!!!!! That is so exciting! I just got back this week from my sister's wedding in Maui.

Scar there is correct The Gaylord Palms is a beautiful property and has just opened with in the last 2 or 3 yrs, and I imagine that it being your honeymoon a nicer room would be nice to have, plus if you are going during Christmas time they offer a wonderful ice exhbit!

I've stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza twice. First time in 1980 with a group of 16. We had rooms on the first floor which the balcony opened into the pool area. The second time was for our honeymoon in 1984 (7 days in Jamaica and 2 in Florida). Our good friend (and excellent travel agent) told the hotel it was our honeymoon. There was champaign waiting for us from the hotel when we checked in and also a basket of fruit from Marlene. The rooms (remember 1984) were nice, 2 queen beds with a large bathroom. Basically typical hotel type rooms. The grounds were pretty with a spa, hot tub, putting green etc. The coffee shop was fine and there was a disco. We were only there 2 days so: 1) we spent most of our time in the parks (MK and EPCOT Center, it was 1984) and; 2) we didn't have a lot of time to use all the hotel amenities.

The Hotel Royal Plaza was completely redone after the hurricanes, so it is a "new" resort now. I stayed there for the first couple nights of my honeymoon three years ago, and it was lovely.

Check out mousesavers.com for a discounted rate on a really nice room. :)

I have tryed to stay in all downtown resorts and the only one I have not stayed in was Hilton but the Royal Plaza is the best.Try and get a Pool room if you have kids and if not stay high up

Thanks for all the info! I'll be sure to keep exploring our options, but it's good to hear the Hotel Royal Plaza is getting good reviews here (they loved it on Mousesavers).
