Hotel discounts for teachers?

I heard through the grapevine that teachers get discounts at the Disney hotels, as much as 1/2 price. Does anyone know if this is true? And do you have to be a grade school teacher, etc., or even preschool ok?
Thanks.

My wife is also a teacher and I am not aware of discounts offered by WDW Resorts to teachers. I am aware, however, that the Swan & Dolphin (not officially WDW Resorts) offer some pretty significant discounts to teachers - I believe I heard as low as $129/night. Hope this helps - good luck!

Yes, Swan and Dolphin offer hefty discounts to teachers. All you have to do is show a paystub, any grade level. We stayed there for 2 nights back in Dec. before we could move to a Resort and the teacher discount was 109. The code was TEACH, haha.

A litte off the path but still good to know. Sea World (I know it's not Disney) lets Florida teachers in for free. My wife is a teacher and has never paid to go there.

Good to hear about the Swan and Dolphin. I think I just found where we are staying for the weekend in May.

Is that just FL or nationwide? Do you have to tell them when making reservations?

You have to tell them when making the reservation. It's the same discount that is offered with the Entertainment book. The Swan and Dolphin are the only Disney area hotels that give this discount.

Just so everyone is aware the teacher discount is not the same as the entertainment rate. The entertainment rate is now 162.00 a night (it used to be 182.50). The teacher/government rate is 129.00 a night. They told me to bring a union card or teacher license. They also charge a 10.00 a night fee on top of that which I they will not waive.

When I checked on it last year, I was told that the rate was the same as the Entertainment book. They obviously have changed it this year. That is a great rate!

Here is the scoop on the Swan and Dolphin. If you have a Teaching liscence, teachers ID, or a pay stub you can book a the special teachers rate. Regardless if you are a Professor, homeschool teacher, pre-school, etc. If you show one of those items, you qualify for the discount. The rates are as follows.

Standard room- $129 per night
Lake view room- $154 per night
Resort view(attractions view) - $164 per night
Balcony room- $174 per night
Club level (continental breakfast incl. ) - $199 per night

these prices do not include tax.

Just wondering if any one knows what i.d. would be required for the government rate. Would a photo id that says property of US government on back be acceptable? Our friend told us he got the rate once when he was a contractor for the govt. Has anyone else had a similar experience. Also would this rate be good for 1 room only or could you book 2 rooms at the same time? Thanks.

Thanks again for the info, Pam! The last really good deal I remember Disney offering teachers was the year that a teachers' pay stub and a letter from your school district got you into EPCOT for free for an entire year - think it was back in '95 or so. (And did we ever take advantage of it!!!):)
