Hotel Construction

While on a recent trip to San Antonio, a tour guide was describing how the Hilton was built in time for the worlds fair in the sixties. The rooms were pre-constructed and inserted into the structure. One rumour was the bibles were in the drawer as the furnished rooms were implanted into the structure.

What does WDW have in common with this?

Contemporary and the early parts of Poly were constructed with pre fabed modular unit type construction. The frame was constructed and rooms inserted complete.

The rooms were finished at a location about 3 miles from the site and trucked in, each room weighs about 6 tons

The modular design was also suppose to allow for easy refurbishment as the entire room could be removed in one piece. After the rooms were inserted, the concrete settled and the removable rooms became permanet.

Anyone know what major problem Disney ran into with this form of construction and why they haven’t used it since?

Is this a trivia question? If so, here are my guesses:

-it doesn´t allow them to make changes in the structure of the building if they wanted to remodel it?

-it costs a lot?

-makes a lot of noise? haha

:veryconfu :veryconfu :) ;)
