Hotel Capacity Increasing Anytime Soon?

I know from a friend that came back in early June it looked like Port Orleans was doing some kind of refurb. Lots of work trucks and construction material over there.

It's all staffing-dependent. If they can't hire enough people to run them, they won't open them. Right now there's a $1,000 dollar bonus for housekeeping for example for those who'll stay on for 90 days.

Do we have any reliable rumors as to when the remaining All-Stars or Port Orleans will open? Anything other than just speculation, I mean. Also, do we know if the resorts that are open are operating at full capacity? IOW, is it possible that we'll see more inventory become available in the existing resorts as they manage to ramp up staffing?

I know everyone wants to paint Chapek as the moustache-twirling villain, but I think there's other factors at play here than just which resorts are cheapest.

Remember that a value resort has WAY more rooms than a deluxe resort. All-Star Music, which is still closed, for example, has 1,604 rooms. The Contemporary has 655 rooms. If Disney is short on housekeeping staff, it would be much easier to staff the latter than the former.

I'm not saying the price of the resort isn't a factor -- I'm sure it is. But I don't think it's the only factor. Otherwise, why did they open Pop Century or All-Star Movies before Port Orleans? Or why open Caribbean Beach before Animal Kingdom Lodge?

This. You know they are desperate for housekeeping help when for-pay housekeeping extras at DVC are now unavailable. Larger resorts with more rooms are simply untenable until they can resolve their staffing issues/needs.

There are a lot of factors at work…

first…they’re still hit in the labor goonies by less college program and no IPs. They don’t run hotels…but it forces more staffing into areas that they usually supplement.

overall labor is hard to Find…that’s well documented and they are the last in town to offer any incentives. Hell…you can’t even enter the park now…I believe?

there are dvcs slapped to all the “deluxe”…since you have to have those open…it makes sense to open the rack rooms to utilize staff and services.

But there’s one caveat: I think they don’t want to open hotels until they are booked solid. That’s where they’re wrong. When you have a recession…occupancy at wdw dips and they have to ride it out. So ride it out. Let people pay you to go to port orleans…just keep it partially closed on low occ until it loosens with bookings. If it sounds like I’ve done that before…it might be true 😎

I'm surprised that with the runDisney races announced this morning that the two PO moderates aren't opening. Surprisingly, Wine'n'Dine is happening Nov. 4-7!

If any of these races interest you we suggest booking a room as soon as possible. Any of our excellent Destination Specialists can help you do that so click this button to get a quote from a professional travel agent now.

They’ll be open by then…staffing is probably why no announcement has been made yet
