A very interesting article I just read at Newsweek got me doing a lot of thinking. A while back there was talk that the recent closures of the Disney stores and animation facilities, coupled with other acts at Disney signaled a merger or take-over of the company was in the works. However, most shrugged it off, including myself, that Disney was just getting rid of unnecessary baggage.
Well, in Newsweek , there is an article about the CEO of Time Warner, Richard Parsons. Here is the interesting aspect of that article:
<<<< Time Warner is so revitalized, in fact, that it's openly exploring major acquisitions again. "We're now in a position to play," says Parsons..............But there's a long-shot scenario in the mix that's more intriguing. Time Warner could put Disney in its sights. "The easy thing would be for Parsons to buy cable," one senior Time Warner executive says. "'Is he going to buy Walt Disney?' is the more interesting question." For years, Disney has been a subpar performer, and has been mentioned often as a potential target for Comcast. Time Warner execs say Parsons would consider making a friendly bid for Disney--but only to rescue it from a hostile-takeover attempt. A Time Warner spokesman says the company is focusing on growing its businesses, not coveting Disney>>>>
What really surprised me is there has apparently been talk about Comcast trying to take over Disney. Is this really true or just business mumbo-jumbo? I still don't think Disney is in bad shape that a take-over would be easy. Everything is rebounding at the company, so hopefully this is all just crazy talk. What do you think?
