Honeymoon Cruise

Hi all!

We will be doing a Disney cruise for our honeymoon sometime in summer 2019. I'm looking for recommendations on which ship, itinerary, etc. would be best for celebrating our marriage! I'm also hoping to be as cost efficient as possible, as we'll be spending a large chunk of money on the actual wedding shortly beforehand. ;) Any and all advice, experience, and suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks in advance. :)

Next July, the Dream is running 5 night itineraries with two stops at Castaway Cay, 1 sea day, and 1 Nassau day. That’s a good amount of time for your first cruise.

Cost efficient and DCL is almost unheard of. Florida residents do occasionally get nice discounts on cruises that are under selling but im not sure the likelihood hood of that during the summer.

Ill second @EOD K9 That a doible dip 5-nighter would be a great cruise for you but its also one of the most expensive due to popularity.

IMO, if your looking to DCL on “the efficient” Id bank some cash, have your bags ready and when the Florida discounts hit for cruises in September/October jump at it.

All four (4) ships seem to get great reviews, so the difference per ship may be little. We liked our cruise on a prefurbed Magic and our cruise on the Fantasy. We liked the longer cruises but agree that a double-dip Castaway Cay would seem ideal for a honeymoon cruise. As for saving money, cruising is not your friend. Any cruise line, DCL maybe more than most, will be "tres cher" (french). But the memories will be priceless.

The way we pick a cruise is to first pic where we want to port out of. For us that answer is Port Canaveral though we have considered other ports in Florida. Seeing as you already know what time of year you are looking to cruise your choices will be pretty limited if you pick the port first.

I find pricetag for the 3 and 4 day cruises much easier to swallow then the longer cruises though we hope to someday do a more extensive itinerary we haven't as yet been willing to drop that much on a cruise. While as everybody else has mentioned you can't really call a DCL cruise a bargain or cost efficient I think you will find you got your moneys worth. And probably be wanting to plan another cruise soon after.

Perhaps some of your wedding guests will help pay for the hooneymoon, we asked for money instead of gifts and easily paid off our wilderness Lodge hooneymoon.

Let me rephrase... by cost efficient I mean that this isn't an "all bets are off, let's upgrade everything" trip. However, it IS our honeymoon and we want it to be special. I have a general idea of the cost we're looking at and we're fine with that. I just know that when people hear "honeymoon," they often think that money is no issue so I didn't want to start getting suggestions that were totally our of our budget.

OK, first off I have to ask if you’d consider a September cruise, because many internet girlriends on board.

So yeah, that’s not gonna work. Understandable. Honeymoon and all.

I’ve sailed on both the Dream and the Magic with my hubby, and our opinion (I asked him just now) is that the smaller ship, the Magic, is a much more romantic experience. Which is not to say that we didn’t love the Dream.

Make sure to do Palo, that’s my number one suggestion, either ship. If you sail on the Magic and do Palo, ask for Ritesh as your server.

Any specific questions you have, I’m happy to answer. xxxx

Also, if you guys love the beach, then do consider a double dip Castaway Cay itinerary. As beaches go, it’s fantastic

I am not a beach goer. When we dock at Nassau, I stay on the boat. So many fantastic things to do on the boat.

Last time, we even stayed on the boat on CC day—the crew couldn’t believe we didn’t get off for CC, but that’s just how much NOT a beach person I am—we parked ourselves on lounge chairs in the adult section of the ship and had a great relaxing day.

No matter what, you can’t go wrong with a DCL honeymoon. Tagging @ScoutN because he not only honeymooned on DCL, he got married there too, so he can give you best advice.

Thank you for your input! :) Palo is DEFINITELY on my list. I enjoy the beach, but maybe not enough for a double dip trip to CC. I looked through some of the excursion options at the different stops and there was at least one that caught my eye at each destination. Dylan is on board with it (which surprised me, given the cost) and agrees that we can swing it with some intentional saving and wedding gift money. I just can't imagine any other option for a honeymoon and know that I would be disappointed if we didn't make it happen!
