Home on the Range....how do you think it will do?

Well, the opening day of Disney's Home on the Range is only 3 days away, which leads me to this question: how well is it going to do on its opening weekend, along with it's total run in theaters? It opens Friday along with 3 other major films, which are Hellboy, Walking Tall, and The Prince and Me. Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is still only a week old, and with more spring break vacations coming up for more children, the movie is bound to see a small increase in weekend totals, along with the Easter break for many. Next week has 5 new films out in theaters, which are Johnson Family Vacation (opening next Wednesday actually), Ella Enchanted, The Girl Next Door, The Whole Ten Yards, and The Alamo. The week after that brings in Kill Bill: Volume 2 and The Punisher. Another children's movie isn't being released until May 21st with Shrek 2. So, for the first weekend, i'll predict about $14.5 million, and second (maybe third if Walking Tall is strong) on the box office chart behind Hellboy, and $60 million when it completes its run. But there's no way that it'll compare to Brother Bear, which opened with $19 million, and finished in the U.S. with $85 million.

Your predicitions? :D

Interesting question....I visit Box Office Mojo and the posters on that site (who aren't disney fans like us) think it will open this weekend anywhere between 14 million and 18 million.

I hope that it opens to over 20 at least. I can't believe Scooby Doo 2 made so much money...I mean, the first one was complete garbage...I think Scooby Doo will lose at least 50% this weekend.

If Range can open with somewhere over 20 million, say perhaps, 22 million and have good legs, it can hopefully pass 100 million domestic.

I'm not good with the numbers end, But I have a a feeling it will do great. The advertising folks did a good job I think.

Yeah, with Hellboy opening this weekend, and with Scooby still in the picture, who knows. I'm gonna guess it won't be a hit by Hollywood terms. Maybe opening with $15 million.

Well, Brother Bear was panned by critics too and I loved that movie. I thought it was a lot better than Nemo. I kinda think reviewers have something against 2d animation nowadays.

If a piece of $#!t like Scooby Doo can make 30 million opening weekend, why can't Home on the Range? ( not that I think its a peice of you know what!) I am still excited to see it. :animwink:

It's almost become a required sentence in every review to say that the current Disney film is "not as good" as the films of the early 90s. I also think that Disney's saturation of the market has created some ill will in the marketplace. I don't think its a coincidence that the films thought to be disney's best (Mermaid, Aladdin and Beast) came after a prolonged period where Disney released NO animated features of note. If Disney really wanted a new classic, all they would have to do would be not put any new animated product out for 2-3 years but of course they won't do that.

Home on the Range looks very entertaining to me. My kids are dying to see it and we are going on opening day.

I think about 12-15 Million opening.
It should get some Spring break money from the little ones. And end up around 60 Million in the end. It's got soem competion out there and more coming (Disney's own Miramax's Ella Enchanted opens in a 2 weeks) so don't look for this to this to save Disney 2-D but Chicken Little looks like it could get Disney back in buisness I see that movie going into the 200 Millions next summer.

I really hope it does well too.

Here are some "official" predictions:

Box Office Guru - $11 Mil
Box Office Report - 13 Mil

I don't know why so many people are saying its going to do so badly? I think its classic Disney stuff...talking animals, songs, etc. and the advertising has been everywhere!

Box Office Report has it opening in 4th place and only with $13 million. Ouch! (but then again, I don't like their predictions....Hellboy is certainly going to make more than $25 million and Starsky and Hutch isn't leaving the top ten)

My thoughts on it still haven't changed. I think it's still not going to be that great of a movie. Then again, I guess i'll have to wait and make sure of that myself when I see it tomorrow (I always see Disney movies on opening day).
