i was reading in another rumor thread that ToT was almost a Hotel California themed ride. is this true? and if it was, why was the idea scrapped? i doubt if anyone knows or if that was true, but i figured id throw this out there for all those people who have connections.

I never heard anything like that from what I have read about the ride. I know that the elevator/drop shaft idea was in place, and then they decided that the Twilight Zone would be a good theme for the place.

Yea that's not correct information right there.

However let me take this time to say Hotel California is one of the best songs and the best Eagles album of all time.

That is all.

Heading for the great escape.
Yes i can see how meeting a chemicaly enhanced Joe Walsh would be more scary than those ghosts.

Just with a simple inclusion of music you could change the whoe tone of the attraction.

You can check out any time you like but you can never leave,

Wasn't there a plan to create a hotel and base an attraction on Mel Brooks films. I thought I read Disney and Mel Brooks were working together to create a sort of funny comical type of attraction. I don't remember specifics.

I am dreaming of audio-animatronic Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Glen Frey. The 70's hairy version of course. What a ride! I loved the Hell Freezes over Tour. :cool:

Unfortunately I was in the Blakans when that tour was announced and it had sold out by the time I got back. But thanks to a stroke of luck I was asked to do security at Wembly stadium and got paid for watching the show.

Joe walsh is as daft as a brush, His contorted face when playing a solo would be ideal for spooks in the ToT. IMHO of course. :D

Let's see some lyrics...

I went down to Kissimmee, all the way down there.
Location Disney World, oh in Liberty Square.
Up ahead in the distance, it was right there in my sight.
My heart beat faster, I started to grin.
This was the ride for tonight.

So I stood in line waiting.
I heard a haunting yell.
And I was thinking to myself
"This will be Heaven and this will be hell."

Then they opened the doors up and they showed us the way.
A voice was coming out the wall,
I thought I heard him say:

Welcome to the Haunted Mansion mortals.
Perfect resting place (perfect resting place).
For the haunting race.
Plenty of room left for one in Haunted Mansion.
Any time of year (any time of year)
You can join us here.

This place's definately twisted, it's just dishing out the ghosts.
It's got just this one stretching, stretching room,
where you see the host.
How they dance in the ballroom, sweet ghost effect.
I'll always remember, how could I forget?

So I sat there chillin'
Listenin' to the ride.
He said, "We have a lot of spirits here, nine hundred nintey nine."
And still those ghosties are haunting all of this place.
Shake you up in the middle of the ride
Just to here them say...hey...

Welcome to the Disney's Haunted Mansion.
Perfect resting place. (perfect resting place)
For the haunting race.
They're "livin'" it up at the Disney's Haunted Mansion.
What a nice surprise, the walls have eyes.

Ghoulies on the ceiling,
And Leota is on ride.
She said "We all have vistors here, could you please arise?"
And in the mansion's attic,
The apex of the ride.
You glimpse at a still beating heart,
That belongs to the ghost bride.

Last thing I remeber, I was
Heading for the end.
I had to find the passage back
So I could ride again.
"Relax" said the Ghost Host
"There are many ghosties,
I better just warn you about the
Three that are hitch-hiking!"

~~~~~~
The other day i changed some lyrics out of the blue:
Welcome to the Disney's Haunted Mansion.
Perfect resting place. (perfect resting place)
For the haunting race.
They made it a movie and baby I'm complaining.
What a nice surprise, the walls have eyes.
They had a special on Discovery or Travel a while back and one of the projects they covered in some detail was ToT. Mr. Eisner was pushing for a "grown up" mr. toads wild ride through a hotel theme based around some dreck that Mel Brooks was coming up with. Mr. E apparently has a long friendship with Mel Brooks. It was described as a combination of low brow humor and slap stick. It apparently was considered awful even at the blue sky stage by most everyone exposed to it. The way some of the people interviewed talked about it, it sounded like WDI was overcome with projectile vomitting. Of course they were more polite about it using expressions like "no decernable theme", "not completely consistent with values I guest hold", and "the back story was a little too agressively adult". Happily WDI pulled a very nice rabbit out of the sorcere's had and came up with ToT.
