DAY ONE - Wednesday, November 27, 2002

I was so excited, I didn't need an alarm clock and was up a few minutes before our 3:00am alarm actually went off. I made some coffee, listened to my husband shower and tied up a few loose ends. At 3:15am, I hear my girl's alarm go off and at exactly 3:16am, they were downstairs wide awake and ready to go. I have NEVER seen them move so quickly. After calling my mother-in-law to wake her up (and finding out she only had one hour of sleep) we had coffee, muffins and took some coffee for the road and jumped in my husband's truck. (We pre-loaded our luggage the night before.) At about 3:50am we were at my mother-in-laws awaiting our limo that was scheduled to pick us up at 4:00am. Then it was 4:05am. Then 4:10am. No limo. At 4:15am we called the limo service and awoke the owner, who in turn had to call and awake our limo driver who overslept. Fortunately, he lived fairly closely and was at our door around 4:40am. We're known to be a family that no matter how hard we prepare, SOMETHING always goes wrong. So my thought was that if this was the ONLY thing that went wrong on our vacation, we were still sitting pretty.

Flash forward to the airport and we're still on time and we're able to pre-board and get bulkhead (yeah!) because my mother-in-law is in a wheelchair. (New plane, Southwest, 1/2 filled flight, leather seats, hysterical flight crew ... and we even arrived in Orlando 15 minutes early.)

After grabbing our bags we spot Tiffany Towncar - except, it's not OUR driver. He finally locates our driver after about 20 minutes and we're off to Disney. Our limo driver was wonderful - and since he was from Poland, a lot of talk about yummy ethnic foods went on during the short drive to Disney. We were too excited about arriving that we opted to skip our scheduled grocery stop.

We pulled up to the Contemporary and I ran in to check in and left the rest of the family standing outside to bask in the Florida sun - though it was only about 60, it was a welcome change from the snow we just left. I was surprised to find that our rooms were ready, got our key cards, maps, grabbed the family and the bellman and went upstairs. We were given rooms 4509 & 4508 - and they were NOT connecting rooms. The key cards worked on 4508 but NOT on 4509. Hmmmmmmm. The bellman had a bright idea and tried the cards in the connecting room of 4507 and BINGO we're in. (Apparently, just a minor screw up by the front desk.) But alas, the guarranteed smoking rooms that we requested months in advance were not to be - as well as the Magic Kingdom view I had hoped for. We had a pretty lake view though and opted not to complain and just smoke on the balcony.

After settling in, we went downstairs to the restaurant that adjoins Chef Mickeys, Concourse Steakhouse, and had a relaxing lunch watching the monorail overhead.

We couldn't keep the kids away (or me!) from the parks any longer, so we decided to check out Magic Kingdom in the afternoon. We had rented a electric scooter for my MIL from Life Air and we hopped on the monorail and went over to the park. This was probably 2 of the biggest mistakes of our trip - the park was literally wall-to-wall people. And we thought that using a scooter would be easy for my MIL but it was a nightmare - you can't start and stop on a dime and she was extremely worried about clipping the heels of people that were stepping in front of her. The rest of the family tried to form a human shield around her so she could move, but MK was so completely crowded, it was impossible. Right before you turn the corner on Main Street to see the castle for the first time, I pulled the girls over and said, "I want to show you what I remembered and loved about Disney." I pulled them over for a view of the castle and got a little teary - here I was, 26 years later bringing MY children to Disney. We then made our way over to Tommorrowland and my husband and I took the girls on the Indy cars while my MIL sat it out. Then we wandered over to the Tea Cups and I sat that one out - I get really really ill from anything resembling a Tilt-a-Whirl! Somehow, I don't really know how, we made it over to the other side of the park to the Haunted Mansion. I asked if my MIL could go through the que in her scooter, and the wonderful CM at the gate said if she went the handicapped way, she'd miss the first half. So she graciously handed us 5 Fast Passes so my MIL wouldn't miss anything. My MIL can walk, but not for distances longer than a 1/2 block so though the Fast Pass worked, the standing and walking through the FP que just about killed her - and made her want to kill me.

After fighting crowds the entire afternoon, we decided to pack it up and head back to the hotel. Unfortunately, we picked a time that Spectromagic was about to start. So the crowds that were really thick before, became almost impossible to navigate. Somehow, someway we made it down to the end of Main Street right before the parade started ... and then we got stuck. We couldn't move at all. So what to do? A family standing in front of us noticed our frustration and quite generously offered to squeeze our two girls onto the curb with them. The girls were in awe - and I was too.

Finally, we were able to navigate out of the park and get back to the Contemporary. We took the girls and my MIL back to our rooms and the DH and I headed down to the food court to pick up dinner. Before going, I had read reports about people being dissappointed with the size of the Contemp's food court - though I didn't have anything to compare it to, I thought it was just fine. We never waited longer than 5 minutes, and though we never sat down there to eat, there was always available seating.

Over dinner in our rooms, we poured over the Epcot map and made some guesses about what we'd like to see there the next day. At about 8:55pm, I remembered about the fireworks! The girls and my DH ran down the hallway and out the floor exit on the 9th floor and had a perfect view of the magic. We went back to our rooms afterwards, got ready for bed then heard some loud music from outside - it was the Electric Light Parade right on Bay Lake! This I definitely remembered from my visit in 1976 - and though the girls had passed out about 2 seconds after their heads hit the pillow, the adults had a relaxing time on the balcony watching the water parade.

Epcot, Day Two

DAY TWO, Thursday, November 28, 2002 - THANKSGIVING

Day two of our Disney vacation started off on a slower pace - my mother in law decided to take this day to just relax at the hotel and treated us to a room service breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, coffee, orange juice, french toast and Mickey's pancakes with M&M's - do I have to mention the kids loved breakfast? :animwink:

After a leisurely breakfast, the four of us headed off on the monorail to Epcot. As soon as we arrived, characters were doing greetings by Leave A Legacy - but alas, the CM's announced that the characters were leaving in five minutes. We decided the night before that we would just deal with the lines - if we walked around trying to find attractions without any, we probably wouldn't see much. So we got right in line for Spaceship Earth ... which moved remarkably fast. The girls loved it and it was a great attraction to start our day off with.

Next, we headed over to Test Track. Before getting in line (70 min. posted wait) we grabbed some Fast Passes for it as well - and got a bonus Honey I Shrunk the Audience Fast Pass that was combined with the Test Track one. I do have to say that standing in line at Disney attractions is 1/2 the fun - there are so many things to look at that the wait doesn't seem nearly as bad as it does at any other theme park. Both the girls LOVED Test Track (they're 7 and 5) - and we all screamed our way through it. (Tip: if you have long legs, DEFINITELY try for the front seat.)

We decided to try and work our way through World Showcase, and dabbled in Mexico, Norway and China. The girls got to create their masks in China - the five year old loved it ... the seven year old was pretty bored. We knew there was no way that we'd make it through all the countries, so we just turned around and grabbed McDonald's nuggets and fries for lunch. Though my girls ended up feeding most of their fries to the birds.

Next up was Honey I Shrunk the Audience - which we all adored. Especially my five year old who whopped the kid in front of us in the head - she was trying to hit the snake. We strolled over to see The Circle of Life then onto Living Seas - which I didn't much care for it ... and then Figment and Journey Into Your Imagination ... again, we loved it, except for the smelly part!

It was now time to do Test Track again with our Fast Pass - and it was our first time using the FP as it was intended to be used ... my seven year old got the biggest kick out of passing everyone in line. This time, I sat in the back and my knees got a little banged up ... but loved it just the same.

We did some store browsing and generally just poking around and tried one last ride before we left - Body Wars. There was absolutely no line and we just walked right on in. The two kids ate it up ... but my DH hurt his back on one of the jerks and I had a semi-severe bout with motion sickness. That's one ride I'll never do again. :(

We had reservations for T'giving dinner at Chef Mickey's at 8pm, so we headed back to the Contemporary to rest and shower at around 6pm. My mother in law had an enjoyable day just hanging around the resort and pool ... took a nap too and was really relaxed. We showed her the pics of our Test Track experience and filled her in on our day before heading downstairs to Chef Mickey's.

I should explain here that my seven year old is a bit jaded - when we described the characters to her before we left, she wasn't enthused. She said she really didn't care to see any of them - after all, they were just people in suits.

We walked into Chef Mickey's, got our pager and walked up to have our pic taken. As soon as it was done, our table was ready and we walked right into the back corner in a nice round big table. At my placesetting was a placemat saying "Happy Birthday" and an "It's my Birthday" pin ... very nice touch! Of course, as soon as we were seated, my girls had to go to the bathroom, so we grabbed their autograph books and pens (just in case) and made it half way to the bathroom. Just then, Goofy appeared and my seven year old lost her mind - she ran right into Goofy's arms and hugged him. Here was the magic! Goofy signed both their books - even did a drawing of himself too! What a wonderful first autograph for the girls!

(I neglected to mention that I had Guest of Honor pins delivered to the hotel on the first day - the girls were called by name everywhere we went and made them feel very special.)

Dinner was wonderful and the girls got autographs from Minnie, Mickey, Goofy and Donald Duck. I even got smushed cupcake frosting (from my birthday cupcake) on my nose from Mickey. The girls thought it was hysterical.

After dinner, we headed upstairs to watch the fireworks from our floor then kept the girls up to see the Electric Light Parade. We all sang along to the patriotic songs at the end too.

All in all, a wonderful, magical day.

Coming soon - Animal Kingdom, Day Three.

Thanks for the great trip report. Can't wait for more. How did you like the Contemporary as a place to stay? We are trying it for the first time in January. Couldn't agree with you more about Body Wars, it's brutal!

Meega, nala kwishta!
Great report so far...and I too agree that Body Wars is one rough ride. We took a backstage tour in October, and we got to see BW in action with the lights on from outside the ride.

I'd say most people would pass on this ride if you really saw how much it moves. At some points during the ride, the platform is almost 90 degrees vertical. It looks as bad it can feal. :D

I would stay at the Contemp again in a heartbeat. We were in the tower w/ a Bay Lake view ... we could see the fireworks from a private vantage point just down the hall and enjoyed the Electrical Water Parade from our balcony every night. If you stay in the tower everything is so very easily accessible - from the monorail to the food court and arcade. I don't think I would stay there though in one of the garden wings - I've been spoiled this time by the convienence. :animwink:

Animal Kingdom, Day Three

DAY THREE - Friday, November 29, 2002

Let me first say, I'm from the north. Cold doesn't bother me. I run around all the time without a jacket in 30 and 40 degree weather. We have mighty thick blood up here. :animwink:

But running around from car to store, to the mailbox, taking the dog out without a coat isn't the same as standing in line in 40 degree weather.

On Friday morning the weather forcast for the morning was around 40 - this northern girl thought nothing of just slipping a light jacket on over her tee-shirt - with the thought of eventually just tying the jacket around her waist as it warmed up. Big mistake. Let's just call it a $118.56 mistake - that was the cost of outfitting the entire family (except for DH who works outside all day in the cold and is much sturdier than us!) in sweatshirts (and gloves for the kids!) from Animal Kingdom.

We woke up to a delightful wake up call at 6am from the Mouse himself. Enough time to get everyone dressed, get some coffee from downstairs at the Food Court, and give the girls some Pop Tarts I brought along. We were outside waiting for the bus to extra magic hour day at Animal Kingdom at around 7:10am. I supposed we arrived at the gates around 7:35am ... just enough time to stand in line in the shade and freeze until they opened the gates.

As soon as they opened the park, we made a bee-line (along with everyone else) for the Kilimanjaro Safaris. We were able to walk right onto the car/truck/tram thing and get going. I heard that the best time for this attraction is early in the a.m. - and we weren't dissapointed! Animals crossed in front of our tram - we saw elephants and rhinos - and a lion or two too! Cold - but absolutely wonderful.

After the safari, we stopped into a shop and purchased some very cool (and expensive!) sweatshirts to keep us warm. As my MIL pulled over (in a marked smoking area) to have a cigarette, my wonderful husband trekked off and returned with some hot chocolate. I never thought I'd be thankful for hot chocolate in Florida ... but I was!

As our body temperature rose we headed over to check out the Tree of Life and It's Tough To Be A Bug. Once again, my five year old *almost* cracked the adult in front of us in her pursuit of a butterfly. We all loved it - it's definitely a must see.

The sun was getting warmer and we made our way over and spotted some characters - out came the cameras and autograph books!

On to DinoLand we went. I grabbed 5 Fast Passes for Primeval Whirl then we all took in TriceraTop Spin. Then it was my MIL's choice: Dinosaur! It scared the heck out of my five year old - you can't even see her face in the pictures because it's buried in my lap. But as always, my seven year old fearless girl had a great time.

Unfortunately, my 5 year old wasn't quite tall enough for Primeval Whirl, so she stayed with granny while the DH, me and my daredevil 7 year old used our FP's. (A side note - this was by far the quickest FP experience of our vacation ... we were on in 2 minutes.)

I loved it, DH loved it, and 7 year old didn't want to get off. Now, perhaps, you may not agree with what we did next, and I'm sure many do the same BUT, DH & our oldest used the remaining two FP's that were meant for MIL & our youngest and rode Primeval Whirl a second time. The cast members recognized them and didn't say a word - I don't know if there's a written policy anywhere against this, but we did it. Or I should say, they did.

While DH & the oldest rode the 2nd time, MIL, me and the youngest took some time (and a LOT of cash) to play some of the carnival games. My youngest was in tears after she didn't win at her first attempt at a game so we moved on to the game of total chance (like they all are anyway, but I digress) - you throw a ball into the floor filled with approximately 15,543 white holes, 5 blue holes and 2 red holes. White wins nothing, blue = small prize, red = big prize. I think it was something like $4.00 for 7 balls and after the first set of seven were gone without winning, she begged to try again. Heck, it's her first vacation so I shelled out the extra dough. After the next 7 went by without a winner, the WONDERFUL CM just kept placing extra balls in her bucket thingy (unbeknownst to her) until she actually won a prize. I was so happy for her - and it only took $8.00 to win a 75 cent stuffed animal! Just like at a regular carnival! :animwink:

MIL and I moved on to the game with the water gun - you have to aim for the bulls eye and the first one to raise their thingy is the winner. Two tries and my MIL is the proud owner of a big stuffed dinosaur. Now DH and oldest return and want to try their hand at some games so we move on to the elephant races - you roll a ball up this shelf into holes marked "run", "trot", "walk". We all played a few times (5 of us - I thought the odds were in our favor!) to no avail. One woman on the end won twice though. So as soon as she left, I took the lucky number 11 spot and baggeed a medium sized stuffed dino that now sits on my older daughter's bed.

It was about 1pm now so we decided because we had reservations at 5pm for Hoop-De-Doo, that we should head back to the hotel and grab a bite. I had a wonderful cheese and onion soup, crab cakes and bread at the Concourse Steakhouse - though I couldn't tell you what everyone else had because I was starving!

We went to our room and rested and were off to Hoop-De-Doo. For whatever stupid reason, we opted to cab it to Pioneer Hall. What the cab driver neglected to mention was that he couldn't drive us directly to Pioneer - but that we'd have to get out of the cab and take a bus. Oh well, another $10 lesson learned.

Hoop-De-Doo was wonderful. The look on the girl's faces as they were immersed in the corniness was absolutely amazing. My favorite part though, was when the wait staff comes out on stage at the end ... I thought it was hysterical!

Smarter (and $10 poorer now) we walk about a 1/2 block and board the boat which takes us directly (in 5 minutes!) to the dock at the Contemporary.

Another evening of watching the fireworks and the water parade and we're off to bed.

MGM, Day Four

DAY FOUR - Saturday, November 29, 2002

The previous three days had really tired us out - I think there should be some kind of class or conditioning you should be mandated to do before embarking on a Disney vacation. Hmmmm ... just a thought.

Anyway, as I said, we were bone tired Friday night and changed our plans for Saturday. We were supposed to get up early and head over for the extra magic hour at MGM. But for us, it just wasn't in the cards. Instead, we opted for another leisurely morning with room service. We ordered some coffee, tea, orange juice and two continental breakfasts (yummy pastries!) for the five of us.

Then around 10am, we jumped on a bus for MGM. The plan was to first get a FP for Tower of Terror - and we did. But immediately after that, because of the crowds, my MIL couldn't manuver her ECV at all. She was frustrated and tired - and everyone was on edge. My dear husband decided that he was going to get a wheelchair for her - my MIL protested but my DH is pretty darn pigheaded and got one anyway. And that single wheelchair pretty much saved the day. So we parked the ECV, took out the key and off we went ... I would highly recommend NOT getting an ECV but instead renting a wheelchair from Disney. They're much more manuverable.

We browsed the shops on Sunset Blvd. and I picked up necklaces with little mouse ears for the girls. Then we decided to check out Beauty & The Beast. My littlest one actually cried when the Beast *died* toward the end - it was precious.

Since time had elapsed and we were eligible for another Fast Pass, I grabbed some for our group for Rockin' Rollercoaster then got in the Fast Past que at Tower of Terror to use our first Fast Passes. My MIL will forever tell the story of how I tried to kill her off at MGM by putting her on the Tower of Terror. She was pretty much freaked out - and we have the pictures to prove it. And I'll admit I was freaked out too (though I'll never admit it to her!) and kept my eyes shut a lot after the elevator moved forward.

After buying two "I Survived Tower of Terror" pins for my girls, we got Coke slushies and found a spot near Echo Lake to watch the parade.

Next we did an attraction that surprisingly I was very dissappointed with - Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey. I thought it would've been, I dunno ... better or something. The high point was resting our feet for 20 minutes or so.

We rounded a corner after Sounds Dangerous ended and discovered where people were getting their faces painted - and our girls just *had* to have it done too. My girls couldn't be more different, yet the same - and it was reflected in their choices. My littlest had an adorable pink and pastel cat face done, while my oldest went for the tiger look. I've got great pictures of them doing their fiercest cat impressions.

After making our way down New York Street and stopping for a pretzel break, we decided we had just enough time to do the Backlot Tour before our time for Rock N Rollercoaster arrived. The water sequences were cool and of course my daredevil oldest wanted to get as close to the fire and destruction scene as she could.

We made our way around the Sorcerer's Hat and back down to Rock N Rollercoaster - I used to love rollercoasters ... loved them to pieces. But I'm getting older and decided to sit this one out with my youngest and my MIL and just people watch while DH and my oldest tackled the ride.

While waiting for them to reappear, we watched quite a few people much on turkey legs. They looked positively yummy so MIL and I made a plan to get some to go after the other two returned.

About an hour later I decided to try and find the two rollercoaster fanatics and started to walk in the exit of Rock N Rollercoaster. I had great timing apparently and my oldest came screaming down the walkway saying it was the best thing she ever did - and she did it twice! (Yes, once again I got 5 FP's and they used them to go on the ride twice.) Apparently, the second time they entered the line, they got up to the ride and the CM said to my face painted daughter, "I remember you Tigger! Come up here - you get to ride in front!" And put her and my DH in the very first car. We've got a wonderful pic from the ride with my youngest looking like a young cub laughing her head off.

After returning to my MIL, we told DH of our plan to get some turkey legs to go. We got them wrapped up and bagged and proceeded out of the park. The bus took a while to arrive and though the legs smelled awesome, I ended up with a huge grease stain on my jeans. The price you have to pay for good food, I thought.

We got back to the Contemp and set up our food, took one bite of the legs and found them to be completely awful and undercooked. They were nothing like the falling-off-the-bone legs we saw others enjoying. But thankfully, we also picked up baked potatoes to go along with it and ended up having a semi-light dinner.

After watching fireworks and the Electric Light Parade, DH and I retired to our room, the girls and MIL in theirs and I fell asleep watching the Disney Info Channel.

Magic Kingdom, Day Five

DAY FIVE - Sunday, November 30, 2002

It was another early morning for us - up at 6:00am to prepare to leave for Cinderella's Breakfast at 8:05am. I did my usual morning ritual of stumbling out of bed, getting dressed and somehow finding my way downstairs to fill our re-fillable mugs with coffee. I am in no way able to speak before drinking at least 1/2 a cup of coffee, so thankfully the food court at this hour was always quiet - except for a few grandparents relaxing and reading the morning papers.

We all got dressed and headed downstairs to take the monorail over to MK at about 7:15am. Which reminds me of something I forgot to mention in DAY ONE - for the first trip over to MK on Wednesday, I was able to secure the front monorail car for my DH and my girls, while MIL and I sat in another car. The girls thought it was pretty darn cool and have little monorail licenses to show for it.

After arriving at MK, I stopped to check in with the CM with his clipboard. You gave him your name and he just checked you off the list. This was something that surprised me - when I secured the hard to get Cindy's Breakfast for us, I was told to bring my driver's license and our PS number or I wouldn't be able to get in ... the CM with the clipboard didn't even ask us for anything.

As we entered the park after opening (it was early magic hour day) it was very strange not to see wall-to-wall people ... it was very quiet and peaceful. We opted not to swap my MIL's ECV for a wheelchair first thing - we didn't want to be late for breakfast. It was quite a site to see my MIL on her scooter with my littlest one hanging on the back - my littlest one insisted on wearing her Sleeping Beauty pink fluffy dress and her princess Minnie sequined hat. My youngest looked like she had secured her own chariot to transport her to the castle - adorable!

We checked in in the castle and were immediately seated at a great table almost next to the windows. I heard breakfast here was wonderful - and it was. It was my DH's favorite meal at WDW - and he's pretty hard to please. My favorite was a toss up between the french toast thingys and the fruit and dip - scrumptious! :)

Soon, the princesses arrived and my girls were thrilled - we have autographs and pictures of Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Sleeping Beauty, Belle and Princess Aurora - who looked an awfully lot like Christina Aguilara!

After breakfast, the Fairy Godmother had arrived downstairs and my girls waited in line to chat with her - she took time with every child and even sang a song with them.

My DH wanted to swap the ECV for a wheelchair so we decided that he'd head over to the front of the park to get one and I'd take the girls over to get Fast Passes for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Unfortunately, Frontierland wasn't open yet, so we waited by the ropes (totally alone!) next to the castle. An older CM approached us to chat with my "Princesses" - because of their Guest of Honor badges, they were called by name by everyone. I asked the CM (Ernest was his name) if he thought today was going to be a crowded day at MK. He said they were projecting light crowds for the day and I practically jumped into his arms to hug him!

After the ropes went down we took a leisurely walk over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - and it was sort of strange. For the past few days I had to hang tightly to my children's hands because of the crowds, but for the first time I was able to let them go. The were barely any people around.

We got the FP's and headed back to the castle to meet my DH and MIL then walked back to Fantasyland to ride the carrousel. We rode the carrousel, Dumbo, Snow White's Scary Adventure and It's a Small World without barely a wait. There was a line for Peter Pan, but at this point I was able to grab another FP for this and head on over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to use our first FP's. (Every FP we got that day would give us a return time of only 1 hour later - very cool!) Once again, my MIL was convinced that I was trying to kill her - but everyone else loved it!

My MIL did survive and we stopped to grab some popcorn after BTMR and feed some birds. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting on a bench directly under a tree that about 20 birds were taking up residence in. Let's just say it wasn't a good choice of a seating area!

Once again, we were eligible for another FP so I grabbed another for BTMR and headed on over to ride Peter Pan Flight. Though the girl's thought the ride was great it was my husband who enjoyed it most of all.

We walked slowly back to BTMR and just people watched for a while - then my MIL had her second brush with death as we convinced her to get on BTMR once again. (I truly think she really enjoys the rides - she just likes to blame me for everything!)

Florida had a cold snap (low 60s) for the better part of our visit so we weren't able to partake in any water rides. But this late morning it had warmed up enough to do Splash Mountain. And we pretty much just walked right on the ride - there wasn't a line to speak of. Though we did use the handicapped entrance with my MIL.

Lunch was next on the agenda and we put the kids and my MIL at a table at Pecos Bill's Cafe as DH and I went to grab some food. While we were gone, the girls convinced my MIL to take them swimming back at the hotel. They had wanted to go swimming all week but for the most part it was too cold. And since they knew we'd be coming back to the park later that day anyway for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, they wanted to take advantage of the Contemp's pool.

So we walked through Adventureland, got some pics and autographs from Wendy, Peter Pan, Captain Hook (which was the only character not being hugged in our pics!), and the Genie. We hopped back on the monorail and got ready to go down to the pool.

I made a big mistake by not packing my swimsuit, so the girls, DH and MIL headed down to the pool alone while I shopped in the Contemp's stores.

At around 5pm we headed back to MK and got our MVMCP wristbands and grabbed a spot in front of the castle at almost 6:00pm to watch the fireworks. Though we loved the view of the fireworks from the hotel, nothing compares to being on Main Street to see them. I was definitely feeling the magic and almost started crying when I saw Tinkerbell - but my logical 7 year old said, "Mommy look! There's the wire!" She's too darn smart for her own good.

We fought the crowds upstream to Tomorrowland and took a spin on Indy Speedway then hopped on the Transit Authority for a quick tour. My oldest desperately wanted to go on Space Mountain so DH took her over there while I purchased a Minnie Christmas hat because I was feeling the holiday spirit!

When the returned, my oldest was a bit dissppointed - "Mommy that ride didn't even go upside down!" I think we may have created a thrill ride junkie. :animwink:

Afterwards, the girls and DH took a spin on Astro Orbiter - MIL and I took the elevator up with them but we both chickened out at the end. It's mighty high up there!

Buzz Lightyear was next and I racked up 27,000 points (which is probably pretty bad!) but was beaten by my oldest who scored around 35,000.

It was now time for our 8:00pm reservations over at Liberty Tree, so we made our way over to the other side of the park. Once again, we only seem to know how to travel through the park when they're getting ready for a parade, so getting there was kinda tricky. Once there, the girls wanted to see the parade - so the CM at Liberty Tree was gracious enough to hold our PS's until the parade was over and we found a great viewing spot right outside the restaurant.

After the parade was over, we were seated in Liberty Tree and found ourselves to be only one of about five families inside. This made for HUGE character interaction! My girls were thrilled to see Pluto as they had been asking about him for the last few days. Chip (or was it Dale?) came around with some mistletoe to kiss all the girls. And Dale (or was it Chip?) was at the next empty table playing with the oil lamp. My DH asked my MIL what he was doing, and she said trying to blow out the candle. DH said, "How? Out of his eye?" (Because that's where the breathing holes seemed to be I guess.) Unfortunately for DH, Dale heard him and kept popping poor DH in the head for the next 10 minutes or so. Which reduced all the adults at our table into fits of laughter - I laughed so hard I was crying!

Goofy came over and my seven year old had a question for him, "If Mickey's a mouse, and Pluto's a dog, what are you?" (I think she pays too much attention to my DH.) Goofy just put his head down, shook it and walked away. Again, we were laughing hysterically. Minnie appeared and my youngest called her over saying she had something to tell her - "Minnie, I just wanted to let you know that I love you." OMG - I'm crying for real now.

My youngest wanted to explain the magic to us. She said, "You know how we just saw Goofy and Minnie in the parade? It's magic that there here now too. Disney is a magical place." Now my MIL is crying too.

All in all, Liberty Tree was a great restaurant to end with. We had a fabulous time there - I highly, highly recommend it.

We all had great intentions of staying to the end of the Christmas Party but unfortunately, we were all exhausted and opted to make an early night of it. As we turned down Main Street to leave, it was snowing - what a great exit to a magical park.

When we got on the monorail, I turned to look at my oldest and she was crying. She said she never wanted to leave and was sad that we'd probably never come back. She cried quietly (not a fit, just quietly sobbing) the entire way back to the Contemp. We'd ask her what her favorite part of her vacation was and she'd ask us not to talk about it - that it hurt too much to remember.

Now, we're all having misty moments again. Back at the hotel I gathered her into my arms and told her we'd definitely be back. Even if her daddy had to take his lunch every day to work (which elicited a glare from my DH! ) we'd come back next year.

Off to bed we went - our vacation was almost over.

Coming soon - Departure Day, Day Six

Great trip report, all the details help make the waiting for my next trip in January bearable. Oh and FYI, the way to tell Chip frpom Dale is that Chip is the one with the brown nose like a chocoalte chip! Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip.

Meega, nala kwishta!
Chip also told us, in pantamime, so it took us a while to figure out what he was tring to tell us. That Dale has two teeth, spread apart "as wide as Texas". This was at the Garded Grill in Epcot when he signed our Hitching Ceremony certificate.

Loved to hear you had a great time at Liberty Tree Tavern. That is one of our favorites too. Not only is the food great, but Chip and Dale are the best there. On our trip in Oct Chip was flerting with all the girls. He grabed my wife and planted a big kiss on her, not once, but twice. He was doing the same to other girls too. AT times I though he was gonna get slapped from being a bit to friendly with some of the girls eating dinner. He's so fun.

I love your trip reports as well, but noticed an error of sorts. Which princesses were at the Cinderella breakfast again? You actually doubled up on the same character--Sleeping Beauty is also Princess Aurora (as well as being called Briar Rose and, in my house, referred to as "Awake Beauty" when she isn't sleeping).

Oh, and have you seen Christina Aguilara lately? Not so much with the Princess Aurora look anymore, now she looks more like Dee Snider of Twisted Sister...anyone remember that '80's metal glam band relic?

Departure Day, Day Six

DAY SIX - Monday, December 1, 2002

We all woke up, turned on the weather channel and discovered that our hometown was expecting 3 to 6 inches of snow later on in the afternoon. Since our flight was at 4:20pm, I had a feeling that this wasn't going to be a great travel day.

We spent the morning packing and feeding the birds off the balcony. I discovered that if you lightly toss graham crackers off the 9th floor balcony, birds catch them quite gracefully.

Around 11am we called the bellman and had our bags stored as Tiffany Towncar (and our wonderful Polish driver!) weren't expected until 2:00pm. We paid our final bill and got some lunch from the food court and took it up to the fourth floor Outer Rim bar so we could look out at the lake and pool.

I poked around in the shops and purchased a very cute Mickey Santa doll while the girls ate lunch. Then we decided to spend the remainder of our time in the arcade on the first floor.

In about an hour, the five of us amassed about 1200 tickets - plus an extra 50 from a young lady who walked up to us and said, "I'm just playing for fun - your girls can have these."

I don't know if it's the Disney atmosphere or if only *nice* people visit Disney World, but every single person I met during our vacation was some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. People are kind and smiling, people strike up conversations with strangers easily ... it truly is a magical place.

The girls had about 600 tickets to spend each and wound up with a large bag of little gadgets that would hopefully amuse them at the airport and on our flight.

At almost 2pm, we headed to the lobby, got our luggage and met our driver - who handed my DH a bottle of Polish beer!

We checked in easily, found our gate and discovered our flight had been delayed 40 minutes. Not a bad delay by any stretch of the imagination, but I didn't forsee our flight home being that easy - the weather in our hometown is notorious for causing HUGE delays. But the flight did take off - much to my surprise - at 5:00pm.

As we neared home, the pilot told us we'd been placed in a holding pattern due to snow and visibility. (I had learned before getting on our flight that several flights before us had been diverted to other airports so I was kind of shocked that we weren't.) I hate holding patterns. I hate making those large circles in the sky ... I'm such an awful flyer.

After only about 10 minutes of this though, we were cleared for landing. And boy, was it snowing and blowing down there! We once landed in Boston in a blizzard and this didn't look much different.

Finally, we're on the ground and I'm thanking my lucky stars that we're almost home. BUT, big BUT here, there's no gate assigned for our plane. So though we landed only 50 minutes late, we spent the next hour and a half parked on the tarmac waiting for an available gate. Thank goodness we were seated in bulkhead which gave us some leg room ... we're a mighty tall family. :animwink:

We got our bags, jumped in our limo and the girls fell promptly asleep. In fact, they don't remember anything after getting off the plane. We were home an hour later - and that would be the end of our family's first Disney Vacation.

I say "first" because the following day, Tuesday the 2nd, I called Disney and booked the Poly conceirge for November 2003. :animwink:

Thanks to everyone who read my trip reports - I loved writing them! :sohappy:

Holly, you'll love the Polynesian. I always find the best way to get over the letdown of returning is to start planning another trip right away! One question though, how come you didn't eat at the California Grill while you were at the Contemporary? It's always a must do for us no matter where we stay.
Glad you and your family had such a magical trip.

I actually stayed at the Poly in 1976 and from what I can remember (I was only 6!) I loved it!!

Believe me, I did want to try California Grill - but after pulling up the menu online, I figured that it would be best for all involved if we skipped it. I personally would've loved it - but let's just say the rest of my family is cuisine-challenged. They're a meat and potatoes bunch ... while I love trying new things, they're pretty boring. :(

It's a shame you had to miss the CA Grill but I certainly understand about the food issue. I have one son who never eats anything but chicken nuggets unless forced to eat a "green thing". My husband and I usually have a dinner out at the CA Grill when we are there, using the Neverland Club for childcare which is great by the way and at the Polynesian. But I'd like to take the kids with us next time to see the fireworks from up there, it's awesome. I guess Mr Picky will just have to cope. I wonder how he'll feel about sushi!
