holiday decoration retirement

What happens to retired WDW holiday decorations?

Retired, as in they're so worn out they can't be used anymore? They probably trash those.

But they re-purpose just about anything that's still in good condition. They catalog everything, from ornament balls down to light bulbs. They're in HUGE bins in a HUGE warehouse behind the MK. They build garland, wreaths, trees and other decorations using all the parts and pieces.

As for things like the LoW from Epcot, I think I recall seeing a photo of them in the bone yard at one time.

They catolog every bulb?! That's insane.
I can understand every wreath on main street, or every toy soldier, but every light?

@Tom , you seem like the guy to ask, my wife and I were talking about the snowmen on top of the parking lot ticket booths and the giant tree on main street...where do they store all the LARGE decorations from different seasons?

I suppose "catalog" isn't the best word. More like "stored in an intensely organized manner". For instance, if you want a gold 4" diameter ornament, you go to bin 47 in aisle 4A (or whatever). If you need red C4 bulbs, you go to bin 12 in aisle 3B (or whatever). And so on.

I didn't mean to imply that each light bulb has a bar code or serial number. But the wreaths and trees do, for sure.

They store 90% of the Christmas decorations in the Holiday Services warehouse, north of the MK. It's an enormous facility, but not as big as Central Shops. They store, maintain and build all the holiday decorations there.

They mobilize a couple hundred semi trailers when they decorate the parks and resorts. During Christmas, you'l see them parked all along STOLport. And I think they store some stuff in some of them year-round, if it all doesn't fit in the warehouse and/or they won't need to do anything with it before the next year.

The snow men are inflatable and the trees break down into 3 or 4 sections - all stored at Holiday services warehouse.
