Hit or Miss: Avatar in AK

I'm a bit on the fence about it. In general, I'd prefer DAK to be about real animals, current and extinct. I, for one, have never regretted that Beastly Kingdom did not get build either.

So, by default I don't really need to see a science-fiction fantasy world recreated at DAK. I will, however, postpone judgement until I see what is actually build. A really well executed addition can override thematic concerns.

Miss. Pandora looks pretty, and, of course, Disney would faithfully recreate it. It's all just window dressing to me, though, because neither the environment nor the characters lend themselves to experiences that would be compelling in a theme park.

It's all or nothing for Avatar

Disney has to take an "all or nothing" approach to the Avatar land. They can't do it half way. If they are going to do it, it has to be totally immersible. If guests walk into Avatar land then they have to totally forget where they are and feel like they are in another world, otherwise it will not work.

I personally would love a seamless transition, masked by trees and foliage into a massive indoor area that has a projected sky showing the planet in the sky that Avatar revolves around. That indoor area could transition into night as part of the experience and all of the luminescent plants could come to life.

If Disney does this wrong, or takes a half baked approach or a short cut, it will be a total waste of time.

I call, neither. I have no doubt Disney will make it look awesome and Im sure they will have one nice E-ticket. For the most part I think people will like it, I just dont see it making people plan to go to Disney like Potter did for Uni. I just feel like the time frame for opening is too far off, unless the sequels are a giant hit, which very well could be(they could also tank). If I had to choose, I guess I would be leaning more to hit just because the AK is so lacking anyway and needs the expansion.

The same crowds who were drawn to the film to escape reality and enter Pandora will be the same crowds that will queue outside of the park. If done correctly, the same wave of inspiration that comes from the conservation theme of Kilimanjaro Safaris will be felt from experiencing Pandora. The same sort of awe you get from riding Dinosaur will be felt there as well. People might not agree with it but AK is an amazing park that needs something big to compliment the rest of it. Avatar is it. Hit.

I was initially thinking the whole theme would work better at Hollywood Studios. But I'm going to hold off on judging it until I see it. I have no doubt Disney will do a good job with it. DH is a huge Avatar fan, so that's a huge plus for me when it comes to convincing him to take another trip to WDW.

The real question here is what will the rollercoaster look like that will be built in Pandora. If there's no rollercoaster, I'm not interested. It will just be like Epcot, coasterless area lol.

I have no opinion on this land yet. I loved the movie and I am very excited, but its too early to say anything when we haven't even seen any concept art.

I feel this will be a miss and a huge waste of money. If they are to go through with this it would be better placed in DHS.

I could be wrong, Avatar was a huge movie. I just dont think it will have a lasting effect to represent a complete land. This is just a attempt to compete with Harry Potter land.

Miss...

Personally, even if this does turn out good for Disney, just the idea of a movie that I loathe so much "invading" a place I sincerely love makes me rethink my "future involvement" with Walt Disney World. That's just my opinion though.
