Hilton Head or Vero Beach?

Just wondering what people think that have been to both. I know Hilton Head can be hard to get into in the summer. Also, our drive to Vero would be twice as far as Hilton Head so if Vero is better is it that much better? Looking at these because I think my kids are actually getting tired of the parks.

Haven't stayed at either, but I used to live about 10 miles from the Vero Beach resort and the location is great. Vero Beach is not very touristy, no kitsch like you find in other towns like that. Lots of good places to eat and the beaches are really nice. Depending on when you go you can drive south a few miles and there is a park that almost always has manatees swimming around!

Have been to both Vero and Hilton Head and would say that HH as a resort does offer a little bit more than Vero with the main pool and the beach house pool. The beach at HH is also much larger. Vero has a better-resort dining option, but HH has an abundance of options (and all prices) just a few minutes away.

Either way - they are both very quiet, beach resorts that will give you the exact opposite of the WDW vacation
