Yes, they were much scarier, and extremely gory. Instead of the "Ooze Zone" nightclub, you would find a place named "Bloodbath" (which was the original name for the area before 9/11).
But to be honest, this years event is going to blow away even those events of years past. Only Knott's will have an event on the magnitude of this, and I don't even think they will even be able to match the Islands of Fear!
