people ALWAYS find something to complain about- no matter what! Like they could do better:rolleyes: I wish they would set up Beth and Daryl's cabin and sell moonshine ;)

That's a rather rude and narrow way to look at it. Most don't deny that Halloween Horror Nights' overall quality has diminished the past few years - some due to the IPs, some due to just overall event construction, organization and design.

Many could do better. Many of them are in A&D (the team that designs the event), and simply aren't allowed to.

Well, judging by all of the whining on the HHN Facebook page, I think it's an accurate statement for now. Last year was our first time and I LOVE TWD, so I'm excited to see it return.

That "whining" was from HHN fans and the general public alike.

But hey... forget imagination and originality. Let's just rehash Walking Dead again.

Ok, so would you rather have vampires, werewolves and witches?

Um... yes? Yes, I would. I'd love the whole myriad of ideas A&D has proven to be capable of creating in the past. Nevermore, Winter's Night, Interstellar Terror, Leave it to Cleaver, Dracula/Frankenstein, Psychoscareapy, Screamhouse, Bloodengutz... all original ideas (or original takes on well-known horror tropes) that A&D is entirely responsible for! Not to say they can't do IPs well - look at Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, Dead Silence, American Werewolf in London... though those houses (with the exception of the latter) that were part of events that gave a damn in immersing you in an overarching world, with stakes that mattered and show quality that made HHN the best.

Walking Dead isn't a horror property. It's a drama with zombies. The show simply doesn't make for a very good haunt (especially because they aren't allowed to use the characters we actually care about).

I take it you haven't been going to HHN for very long? It's kind of similar to WDW's decline, if that helps.

As I stated earlier, last year was our first time. And the non-WD houses were pretty damn good. But to slam it for not being original or creative while wanting vampires and the like is silly. I mean how many times have those been done to death?

The Walking Dead is a once in a lifetime horror property," says John Murdy

What sort of lifetime does this guy live? The one from Groundhog Day?

Whether you like TWD or not, I have no idea how anyone could possibly defend this decision. It's beyond tedious at this point. Also, if one believes they can nail the event down to simply "vampires, werewolves and witches," you definitely need more HHN experience. It's supposed to be, and has been, so much more than that. Now it's just zombies, zombies, zombies lately.

This. All of this. Though in fairness, I can't knock Murdy or Aiello too hard - it's their job to essentially serve as the PR mouthpiece sometimes, even if they don't agree with the decisions being made...

Being on the hollywood side, I can't say I mind it too much. I'm just bothered by the fact that they had people stay up until 12/3 in the morning to announce something everyone knew. I hope TWD doesn't stop the possibility of AHS coming

Agreed. The first time they included the Walking Dead in 2012, there was so much hype on my part thinking that the Walking Dead maze would be the best thing HHN has ever created for its event. I wasn't impressed. Silent Hill though (my opinion) was the best. It stayed true to the storyline of the game, the set pieces and costumes were on point and most importantly it was a chilling experience, unlike the Walking Dead.

Yes, I understood the concept of the Walking Dead maze. Instead of Rick and his crew dodging zombies, HHN flipped the script and made the HHN guests the main characters as they "struggle to survive" the zombie apocalypse by going through scenes of déjàvu from the show. Okay that's cool, I like the concept. But wait... The costumes weren't scary and the actors underneath them weren't scary either!

I don't know, maybe I caught it on a bad day or something. Like I said, it was a cool concept but the elements to pull that concept off the ground just wasn't impressive. I wasn't able to attend last years events (wanted to for Cabin in the Woods) so who knows maybe there was an improvement?

Though I do wonder what kind of contract Universal and AMC made to allow the Walking Dead to return for a threepeat (maybe more in the upcoming years). HHN was known for never doing the same thing twice, hell they use to brag about it. That is why I have come to the conclusion in thinking that when Universal and AMC were in the negotiating fazes, AMC made it known that they wouldn't allow Universal access for TWD unless they featured it let's say 6 years in a row (I seriously hope not). I think it's their way of promoting the show and at the same time making a profit out of it. Of course Universal bought into it knowing the show is a huge success BUT... What they don't know is that AMC and it's Walking Dead franchise (or maybe Universal itself) has made Universal look like hypocrites when coming up with fresh, original, new ideas for HHN each year.

Yes, I know it's only one maze that returns but it's still that one maze that Universal could've come up with something different and fresh. I enjoy the Walking Dead series but if I return for this years event, I will most definitely skip this maze. I am eager to learn what other mazes HHN has in store for us!

At first when I heard confirmation from friends before the announcement that TWD was back for a third year I was ready to say "Nope, TM preview will be my only night at HHN, spending the money on Howl-O-Scream instead since I've never done that), but hearing that it is being confined to one house (a soundstage) has me feeling better about the event. Still not a big fan, but at least it won't be boring zombies everywhere I look like last year.

Also heard rumors about Alien being a possibility for a house this year, and if they would do something of American Werewolf quality with Alien puppets as scary as the werewolf puppets were...I may finally run out of a house screaming like a little girl.
