I know it's similar to Alexa but is it in the resort rooms? If it is, is it an extra cost? Sorry I'm not tech savvy.

It only costs a hassle in my experience trying to use the feature. It provides you with very basic information unless I've not been using it properly.

Free of cost, as it’s an advertisement for you to buy one for yourself. I was somewhat excited to see one in our POR room, but never ended up using it as we were just too busy.

We were at AKL in early October for 5 nights.
About 5 mins. after we got settled into our room, the Hey Disney CM lady came a’ knockin’.
She was havin’ issues with settin’ it up (it was new and we never heard anything about it pre-trip), but, about 20 minutes later it was “ready”. She demonstrated several functions, and then she left.
We piddled with it for a few minutes after that, and then never touched it again after that…!!!!! :hilarious:
I just don’t understand Disney so much of the time, it seems like they’re constantly stumbling over themselves to come up with the next best thing…!!!!! 🤪:hilarious:

No way would I want that thing in my room. Luckily when we were at OKW in Sept. there wasn’t one in room. Had there been, first order of business would be to unplug that thing. We were given Alexa and a bunch of Echo devices as a “thank you” gift from our realtor—they’re still sitting in the gift bag. We just don’t trust that kind of tech.

I was also excited for some reason to get it at AKV. Now that we are here- and tied with limited use- I just moved it to another table so I could plug in a phone charger

Maybe fun for little ones…?

I keep mic off

Just bring back Stacey and the Must-Dos…

I am assuming that it is just an other "personality" on a standard Amazon Alexa device.

Then on the back end they tie their servers into whatever information Hey Disney is supposed to be serving up.

Nothing new under the sun.

When we first arrived, the kids asked it a couple questions to test it out, some of which it couldn't answer. Like most folks here have said, we never used it again.

The family gets back to their rooms from a day at the Magic Kingdom

The Hey Disney unit detected they were back when they swiped their magic band to get in the room.

The “listen” LED hidden in the back of the Hey Disney unit lights up green and Mickey is listening.

Dad says, “Oh boy, what a day. The Magic Kingdom was MOBBED today. Maybe we should have gone to the Magic Kingdom yesterday instead of going to Universal”

The “listen” LED in the back of the Hey Disney unit flickers.

“Hey Dad, when we are going to Universal again”, asks Jonny.

The “listen” LED in the back of the Hey Disney unit flickers again and turns yellow.

Dad says, “We are going again to Universal, day after tomorrow”

The “listen” LED in the back of the Hey Disney unit flickers again at a higher frequency.

Jonny say, “I want to go to Universal tomorrow!”

Sue joins in, “Me too!”

Jane, Mom, of Jonny and Sue, says to Dad, “The kids really want to go to Universal tomorrow”

The “listen” LED in the back of the Hey Disney unit brightly flickers again at a higher frequency.

Dad says, “Look, we got the STUPID park pass reservations for Disney tomorrow, I already paid for the STUPID Genie+ and STUPID ILLs. Disney is so aggravating!!”

The “listen” LED in the back of the Hey Disney unit goes from flickering yellow to solid red.

The kids begin chanting, “WE WANT TO GO TO UNIVERSAL, WE WANT TO GO TO UNIVERSAL”

The Hey Disney unit begins to smoke.

Dad, thinking quickly yanks the unit and throws it in the shower and turns on the water to save the day!

Mom, calls guest services, “Hello, guest services, our Hey Disney went on fire!”

Jake of guest services answers, “We are sorry for the inconvenience , we will send someone right up” and hangs up

Jake says to his associate Hank, “We got another Hey Disney meltdown”, I slacked you the room number.

We hear keyboard clicks as Hank checks the logs.

Yup, guests were talking about Universal again.

When Dis first talked about the Hey Dis feture I know lots of people who said as soon as they entered their room upon check in they were going to unplug the unit. Their reasoning is they dont want a device thats listening in when they are on vacation. I havent yet stayed with it in my room but Im going to disable it as soon as possible.

Late at night when you are sleeping it communicates with you on a slightly different frequency that you don’t always pick up on right away. But subconsciously it comes through loud and clear.

“Spend more money. Spend more money. Don’t go off property, there’s nothing to see out there. Mickey loves you. Spend more money. Spend more money.”

Yeah, I just looked a bit more. It's just an Alexa skill.

Really nothing special, there are dozens (if not more) "Hey whatever" type skills for Alexa.

If it scares you, either mute it, or as others have said, unplug it.
