We are going to WDW May 4-12, 2019. We are only going to MK and AK. For the Magic Kingdom we will be getting there BEFORE rope drop so we can position ourselves appropriately. We want to ride 7DMT, Space Mountain and Rockets(never been on) at rope drop...Will we need a FP+ for this since we will be going in at rope drop? I don't want to waste a FP on this if we don't have to!? At Animal Kingdom we will be getting there BEFORE rope drop again. Our main goal is to see Avatar and the attractions(FoP, Nav'i River)...same question...Will we need FP+ for this at rope drop? We want to use FP+ for other things! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Friends!

I am pretty sure for FoP and 7DMT you will still need a FP because lines get crazy. We had a pre-park opening breakfast at BOG and were able to get in line for 7DMT about 40 minutes before the park opened. We were still about 50 people back (of course the ride was down so we didnt even get to utilize the "get in the park before it officially opens perk".

IF you can get to the park before rope drop and head over to 7DMT right away you can very likely get on with a minimum wait. A lot of guests will be having the same idea in mind. Then head over to SM. Again being in before crowds build you should be able to get on with a minimum wait. WE get FP made even though we get in to do them first anyway so we can ride more than once. Rockets ?? If you mean Astro Orbiter.. do it after SM. It isnt a headliner but guests do start building there too. It can get to be a longer wait but not as popular as 7DMT or SM.
Again get a FP if you can for FoP so you can do it twice. The crowds heading for that one at rope drop will be much heavier.
You target the most popular attractions with FP first. They are the ones everyone competes for. We like to get earlier times so when we use them up we can try getting follow up choices after the 3 are used.

OK so after reading and rereading the posts here is my plan...

Magic Kingdom: Go in EARLY BEFORE ROPE DROP to position ourselves nearest 7DMT/SM that we can get. Going to ride the one with the longest line first then the other! Then we will head over to Astro Orbiter...this is not a MUST DO but just something that I have never rode before...is it worth wasting time or should we head over to PotC? Do you think we would need FP+ for PotC since we will be in first hour of park opening!?

Animal Kingdom: Again go in EARLY BEFORE ROPE DROP to position ourselves closest to FoP/Navi, BUT will have a FP+ for these! So if the lines are long at rope drop we can just come back at FP+ time! Then we will head to Rafikis Planet Watch(Rafiki's is the petting area? right?)

So any suggestions on FP+ or change in plans?

You will be waiting at the Hub in MK, so need to decide which ride to go for. They are in opposite directions.

At AK, they will lead you to the entrance to Pandora. You can only have an FP for one of FoP and Navii, they are both tier 1. Definitely FoP if you can, but depending how long your trip is you may not get one earlier than day 3.

You should be fine at the front of the RD pack for 7dmt and have a minimal wait but do your best to get FOP and be super early for RD for RNJ.

Personally, I start at 7DMT then go to Mermaid, the two Frontierland mountains, and Pirates. By then it’s around 10/10:30 and I’m in my first Fastpass window. In between my 3 fast passes I hit up the shows/iasw/mansion and the train. With my morning complete I leave and park hop elsewhere.

You can only book Navi OR FoP at Ak. But Navi would be my personal choice for RD since FoP has single rider if needed.

FoP doesn’t have a dedicated single rider line though, does it??? I thought that was only after the FP+ and stand-by lens merged, in which case you still have to wait in the stand-by line with everyone else.

Okay I'm not single rider so just read about it. Still have to choose one of the 2 for FP, then RD the other.
