I'm trying to plan a trip for September 2011 for my family to go to Hawaii. It will be our 10 year wedding anniversray so I want to make it special. I'm definitely wanting an ocean view room at Waikiki Beach. I'm hoping someone here can lead me to the right path on a good hotel. I'd also like to be within walking distance or bus ride to nearby attractions, such as the zoo and walking trails and stuff like that. Any advice would be awesome and thanks in advance!

Check out the Royal Hawaiian. It's classic Hawaii (big pink building) and you are right in the middle of Waikiki. The hotel is beautiful and you can walk right out to the beach and if I remember correctly the market as well as some restaurants are nearby. If you need to venture out around O'ahu the concierge could probably let you know about shuttle service.

Enjoy your planning and you'll have a wonderful time.

EDIT: I just remembered the Hilton Hawaiian Village. A few different buildings to choose from and they are all on the beach as well. :D

Awesome. I saw that hotel on Orbitz but I was hoping to get some reviews since they didn't really show the views.

Since you are posting here, I'll ask if you're styuck on that date? If not, I would seriously look into boking at the Aulani. We're counting the days waiting for that sucker to open for ressies here.

Disney Resort on O'ahu Scheduled to Open in 2011

I have no clue if the resort is near the places you mentioned, but maybe worth checking out.

Not really close, about 45min - 1 hr drive depending on the traffic. West of Pearl Harbor. It is a big time share development, many other companies have time shares there also.

I personally like the Park Shore location. It is the last hotel on Kalakaua Ave(the main st in Waikiki) . So you get a great view of Waikiki Beach and a unobstructed view of Diamond Head. Kapiolani Park is next door with plenty of activities and everything is within walking distance. Honolulu Zoo is located in Kapiolani Park.

I too can vouch for Kapiolani Park. It's really nice and they tend to have events like live music.
