I am just about to graduate from uni in the UK and now have to decide what to do for the rest of my life!!! ( :veryconfu Ahh, no idea!!) I have alway's wanted to work for disney and this was part of the reason i decided to do a degree in animation however i really like the idea of working as an imagineer and was wondering if anyone knows if this would be possible with my qualifications. At uni we used the 3D package Maya and this looks simular to the computer package i have seen photo's of imagineers using, does this mean there may be positions in imagineering doing 3D animation? I know i wont be able to just applie for a job and get it, will have to work my way up so does anybody know of any programs or internships that i could applie for either in animation or imagineering (or basically anything creative but preferably in Florida) bearing in mind that i am from the UK and finishing uni this year

Firstly, congrats on finishing your degree! :)

I'm afraid being from the UK you are not eligible to apply for any internships in WDW or DLR.

As a graduate, the only options available to you are

1) the International Program (representing the UK for 1 year in Epcot)
2) the new J1 Academic Program (basically two advantage CPs joined together to last a year).

Neither of these options will allow you work in animation or imagineering however. :( All jobs are basic, entry level, CP roles. Unfortunately, Disney don't sponsor visas outside of the various international programs. Hence, it's just not possible. :(

I did the International Program back in 2003 and am doing the Academic Program (as a graduate) from June this year. So if you want more info. on those, I'd be more than happy to help. Sorry I wasn't able to help you much more than that. :o

Hi Ona,

Thanx for letting me know about the J1 academic program, hadn't heard of this before but have done some searching and think i might apply for this... even if it doesnt allow me to work in animation or imagineering would still give me a year in sunny florida to think bout what to do with my degree!! :)

I know that for the international Program you have to go down to London for interview and application process can be quite long, is it the same for this program?

Thanx again! x

Interviews for the international program are usually held twice a year (March & Nov). There are usually several locations. Always London (clearly  ), but there have in the past been interviews in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and I think, several cities in the north of England. It appears to change from recruitment trip to recruitment trip. And you are right, the whole process can take quite a while. But for some, it can be very quick. It totally depends on your timing and Disney's availability.

For the academic program it's harder to say, due to the fact that it is so new. :veryconfu I interviewed for it it Leeds in April. For me the process was alot faster than that for the International Program. I know this has alot to do with the fact that most applicants are students using the program as part of their degree, hence, they need to know asap.

Where about in the Uk are you? I'm in Glasgow. When would you ideally be wanting to go out there? Give Jason at Yummy Jobs an email and he'll let you know where you stand. :)

Minnie, I don't know much about the international programs having done only a regular CP, but Ona seems to have filled you in there. I do know a little about applying to work in animation. I don't know your forte in it, but my bro got a degree in computer graphic design and I got him an application form the Art of Disney in the Magic Kingdom. They guy said they like to see drawings of animals that look realistic, not cartoon, and objects that are in motion to see you skills. For 3D design, I'm not so sure, you'd have to do more research.

Another hurdle you have to cross is job availablility. There was a girl I worked with whos dad did animation for Disney, from Alladin to Treasur Planet. (Hofstead was his last name if you want to find his name in the movie credits. He did the simba cub, azim or gazim the theif in Alladin, the emporer in Mulan...) any way, she said that they started laying of employees a few years back and he was up in the company, but still got laid off, so there's that risk. Any rate, best of luck to ya!

This might be a dumb question, but what exactly is the Art of Disney???
The Art of Disney stores sell Disney fine art, books and collectables. There is a store in each theme park, and in Downtown Disney
