Me and my room mate are arguing about our trip in feb '10. The backlot tour was down for refurb. He says even though the ride was down we still got to see catastrophe canyon in action. I told him this can't possibly happen and that he is thinking of something else. Is there any way to see it in action with the fire and flood even though the tour was down?

no. can't see CC without being on one of the trams...and you can't walk to it.

You are correct. If the back lot tour is down you will not see CC. He might be confusing CC with the naval battle scene done prior to boarding the trams. This could conceivably be left up and running while the tour was down although I do not know if they have ever done it.

Did you go to Universal on the same trip and perhaps see the "Disaster!" attraction? (Formerly Earthquake)
