I'm doing a paper for school about the WDW theme parks and their history and highlights. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for things that I should add. Also, i plan to do a portion dedicated to the rides that are no more. Does anyone have of some that i should add?

You've come to the right place. I'd be surprised if you don't get more advice than you can handle.

Go through the forums and read some of the old threads. You'll find lots of interesting stuff. I know there was one thread in the past few months on attractions that have been discontinued.

An interesting angle may be to discuss how Disney World turned out compared to Walt's original plans.

Be sure to post your paper here when it's finished.

Good luck.

I would suggest you the get the book "Since the World Began" published by Hyperion. It´s very easy to read and very informative of how WDW started and through the first 25 years at least. :animwink:

I actually didi a presentation on WDW for one of my classes. I had some old coffee table books that my mom bought my dad years ago. I can't ship them to you, cuase I'm in college now, but I would suggest a to look in the library and also at amazon.com and even ebay for books like these. You might even purchase them, becuse, if you are posting on a WDW fan site, you obviously love Disney!

This is a great book. We picked it up as one of our flex features on our honeymoon, during the 25th anniversary. :)

The original concept of E.P.C.O.T., and how it became Epcot.

How originally they were going to build seven (or was it five) resorts on the monorail route around the Lagoon.

How the Magic Kingdom is built a level above grade, due to the problems of building on swamp.

I would recomend hightlighting a 10 year period of it's history, with the most recent as RnR, Test Track, Millennium Celebration, and Pooh. The first the concept and the Worlds Fair.

There is a great book called 'behind the ears' and it generally talks about everything that has gone wrong in disney, but it does talk about some early attractions that are no more.

By the way, I'm in college and we are writing our first research paper and i want to do it on disney. any ideas?

Be sure to vist Widen Your World- A Restful Haven for Walt Disney World's Deceased, Deferred and Deflowered. Great site for info on discontinued attractions, stuff that never made it into the park, attraction alterations, etc.

Good luck, meanmice! Right now, I'm supposed to be comparing and contrasting WDW and Universal and how WDW is more family related. It's kind of hard actually. I need to stop my procrastination!
