OK, not a party, but more like a few old timers gathered around the grill and cooler to view the big event. We are right in the path of totality and plan to make an afternoon of it. Already got the viewing glasses ordered and guest list finalized. Will be playing themed music in the background. Here is what I have so far.

Prior to totality:
Brain Damage - Pink Floyd
Soulshine - Allman Brothers
Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
Moon Shadow - Cat Stevens

During the darkness:
Boom Boom, Out go the Lights - Pat Travers Band

After totality:
Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
Good Day Sunshine - The Beatles
Keep on the Sunny Side - The Carter Family
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
Mahna Mahna - The Muppets

Two perfect ones that you may not have thought of or known about:
  • "You Are My Sunshine" (the folk song classic first recorded in 1939 by Jimmie Davis, but recorded many time since, and sung by many a grandma to grandchild over the years)
  • "Daddy, What If" by Bobby Bare and Bobby Bare, Jr. Look this one up if you are not familiar with it. It is an amazing song. The first lyric is, "Daddy, what if the sun stopped shinin'? What would happen then?" Absolutely terrific song.

After "semi" viewing it here in Raleigh a few minutes ago the song I would add to the list is a late 60's song by Peggy Lee called.... Is that all there is?

Here it got a little darker then a usual afternoon, but, not all that much. The sky was blue, the sun was reflecting off chrome bumpers, but, it did seem a few degrees cooler. I had nothing to look up at the sun with, but, based on those reflections it was pretty bright all though the event. We are granted a few hundred miles away from the center path, but, as least for around here, it was not real impressive. I'll check it out closer the next time it passes over.
