I hope this is not inappropriate for the boards, but I just thought I would share this with everyone. Each year, some of the radio personalities from a station here in Dallas (they’re also syndicated a few other places around the U.S.) take a group of terminally and chronically ill kids and their families to Disney World. They’ve been doing this for about ten years now, and in the past they’ve only been able to give the kids two and a half days at Disney. They arrive on a Friday afternoon, then leave Monday morning. This year they are trying to add an extra day (arriving on Thursday afternoon) and they are currently trying to get the money to do so. If anyone is interested, go take a look at www.kiddskids.com. Even if you’re not interested in donating money, there are some great video clips of past trips. Just be forewarned. I’m a big, burley, manly-man and the clips make me tear up.

Sounds like a superb couple of days for the kids.

In the UK a large group of taxi (cab) drivers take needy children from childrens homes around the Manchester area to Blackpool. There is a large convoy of taxis travelling the 35 miles with a police motorcycle escort. The kids get VIP treatment while in Blackpool, particularly on the Pleasure Beach. (For overseas members - The Pleasure Beach is a large fairground type feature with rollercoasters, log flumes and other attractions SIMILAR to those that you would find at WDW and other adventure parks - BUT they are not presented in anything like the way Disney does.)

That's so sweet! When I lived up in Georgia, my mom worked for a group that helped introduced mentally handicapped adults to working and living on their own. One year I got to go with a large group of "clients" to the local fair (a BIG event!). It felt good to be spending the evening with these people, plus they sure know how to party!!!:)
