I am desperate to verify my reservation. No one at Disney will speak to me because I am not the member. Member verified reservation with Disney for me via phone when I paid her in March but would like to be absolutely sure before travelling 9 hours with 2 children. All I need to know is if the reservation is still in my name. Hate to think they changed it after giving me confirmation but better safe than sorry. Does anyone know someone who can help me? I have emailed the member several times but no answer-yikes. Hate to think I have lost my money (alot of it)and have nowhere to stay once I get there. I just can't understand why Disney can not give me this info. All I need is a yes or no answer to the question is there a reservation in my name. I offered to provide proof of my identity if necessary. Really saddened by the rudeness by the cast members I've spoken to. One actually hung up on me! I'm sure I'm not the first person who has done this. Really wonder how we'll be treated once we get there.
DVC response to my request is:
Due to security reasons we cannot provide any information to the guest
of Members. What we suggest is to keep trying to contact the Member from
which you purchased so she can provide any verification.
If I have the reservation, will be paying for tickets AND dinig why can they not confirm? HELP!

From what I have heard, renting requires trust on both sides. Could you do a 3-way call with the member and member services? I know at some point (usually the week before your reservation) that the resort gets the reservation information so they can look at requests (like handicap accessible rooms). You could try giving the actual resort a call and see what they can do for you.

We did a 3 way call in March when I made the purchase. I'm just nervous since it's been so long. Probably wouldn't be if DVC wasn't being so secretive. I'll try calling the Boardwalk directly and see what happens.

I don't think that MS or BWV will tell you anything. They want to discourage the renting of points, so that might be why they aren't more helpful.

I would request a copy of the confirmation from the owner, but that still could be changed up to the date of your arrival. How did you pay for the rental? Check, paypal, credit card?

I used paypal. I do have a hard copy of the reservation. I spoke with someone else who rented from this person and they said all was perfect and legitimate. I may just be worrying for nothing but the thought of not being 100% before we leave makes me really nervous. It's July 4th week. We will have real trouble finding something else. I assume I can file a paypal refund requuest and hopefully get my funds returned if all falls through but it sure would ruin our vacation.

Just a bit of explanation.....

Member Services won't confirm your reservation because you don't own it - up until you walk up to the check-in desk, the member owns the reservation and has full control of it.

I can certainly understand why it's upsetting for you to not be able to talk to MS, but as a DVC member, I also understand their perspective. Partly, it is a security issue. As a member, I don't want anyone else to be able to call MS and find out where and when I'm staying. Anyone could call and give my name. The only 'safe' thing to do is to speak with the member, and only the member, by verifying the member ID and SSN.

There are also financial considerations. MS is paid for by the DVC members, through their maintenance fees. Since rentals are private transactions between individuals, and DVC is not involved in any way, it's really not appropriate for MS to be spending their time dealing with rental issues. Many members rent out reservations, I can see how it would be very time consuming dealing with all of that.

I'm sure none of that made you feel any better, but I just wanted to explain why MS won't discuss the reservation with you.

Some have suggested having the member do a conference call with the renter and MS; that would make the renter feel better, but it's a false sense of security. An unscrupulous member could hang up the conference call, call MS right back and cancel the reservation. The thing is, there are tradeoffs when you rent from a DVC member. Yes, you save a great deal of money, but the downside is that you give up control of the reservation, and the sense of security that goes with it.

The vast, vast, majority of rental transactions go very smoothly. I know it's hard not to worry, but I'm sure you'll be fine. The reservations are usually downloaded to the resort about 4-5 days before the check-in date. At that time, you can call the resort and they will confirm your reservation for you.
