Healthier Alternatives to Dessert on DDP

I was just wondering if people have any experiences of switching their dessert for something a bit healthier on the DDP.

The Disney info says that they can be switched for a fruit plate, side salad or cup of soup but these aren't always on the menus so just wondered what they are like and any restaurants where this is better or worse, QS or TS.

The dessert can actually be switched for any side item at all, including extra beverages. On my most recent trip, many people in my group would swap it for bottles of water at QS spots or specialty drinks (such as slushes or Odwalla type things). At TS spots the servers would often show us what appetizers could be swapped for the dessert. Skipper Canteen has a section of the menu for soups & salads that specifically can be swapped out for the desserts.

QS is definitely easier to do this switch (as far as options go) I'm pretty sure all the TS should have fruit... they always have one sugar free dessert option on the menu. I've done the switch many times at TS for a side salad or a soup.

Check menus ahead of time for CS locations, for sure! CS dessert/beverage substitutions are simplest to plan for, in that you can see every "snack" item denoted clearly on the menu, so the "substitute your drink and/or dessert for any snack item(s) from the same menu" rule is easy to apply.

However, you'll need to consult online menus ahead of time to determine which CS places offer healthful "snack" options, as the CS menus are, in general, very limited. (Trading your dessert or fountain beverage for "any snack on the same menu" sounds great, but not if the only non-dessert, non-beverage snack item available is french fries!)

If there is a specific substitution you have in mind, you can use the touringplans "Search For Menu Items" tool to find it (e.g., whole fruit), and can narrow your results by type of restaurant, (e.g., counter-service), location (e.g., Magic Kingdom), and even DDP snack-credit eligibility. https://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/dining/menus

My ds has a few allergies and if he can't have anything on the menu he's always been offered fruit or sugar free sorbet which almost every TS restaurant has but isn't always on the menu. hope this helps
