Having to Call to add Celebrations

Why does Disney currently make you call to add your celebrations to your resort reservation and/or ADR's?

Why not have this on a check box, and notes section when placing the reservation online?

For example, if your a DVC memeber, which has its own website, it has a celebrations link to click on, and add everything electronically.

MDE does not have this feature, its phone in only. (unless there is a super secret hidden link hiding on the page somewhere)

Wouldn't it save time of the customer and CM's on the phone if you could self serve with this regards?

You can do this when you do on-line check-in.

Any screenshots? The last time i did online check-in, the link for requests only lets you check off items like, 1st floor, 2nd floor preferred, refrigerator or special accessibility needs.

I've not seen anywhere to add specific notes for celebrations.

I was able to when I did my online check-in for our June trip, but when I did online check-in for our upcoming October stay, there was no place to do it. I called and the CM told me, "Yep, that's what I'm here for!" So apparently, the procedure has changed!

I wonder when in June that changed, we went early June, and didn't see anything at that time.

In any case, i wish they would bring it back :-)

Perhaps they changed it because of all the people who were inventing false celebrations in the hope of getting "extras" like free cupcakes at table service restaurants, a practice that's been discussed here a bit in the past, and variously lauded as a great way to harmlessly game the system and multiply "magic," or condemned as an Esau-esque exchange of one's human dignity for a substandard bite of ill-gotten dessert.

Adding an extra step for the guest to affirmatively complete in adding the celebration -- one in which you have to call and speak to a human being rather than simply click a few boxes online -- probably weeds out a lot of the liars.

I doubt this, just to save a few free cupcakes...

The online check in celebrations were added during the "What Will You Celebrate?" marketing campaign. Since that theme is no longer the current promotion (hence the coming changes to the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! parade) the choices for online check in were removed.

I don't think it's necessarily to "save a few cupcakes", but I do think the company is scaling back on the whole celebration thing. Everyone is celebrating something, and everyone wants to feel special. I don't think the company wants to put as much emphasis on it anymore because guests are failing to manage their own expectations.

You would be surprised to know, and see for yourself when you visit, the majority of guests are not wearing celebration pins. As a matter of fact, when we went the beginning of summer, it was like a where's waldo to find guests wearing celebration pins.

The main point, is everyone is not celebrating something. An earlier post explained the website removal, makes perfect sense.

I'm sure it will be back at some point. No everyone books online only. Whenever you book over the phone, or through a travel agent, they always ask and note your reservations, so they certainly are not trying to scale back.
