Haven't been back to Disneyland in 28 years...constant debate in my mind!

We have been coming to WDW now for 29 consecutive years. We came in 1985 for our honeymoon. That same year we went to Disneyland and visited relatives. We would really like to go back there and experience all the new attractions ( park) etc. It really looks neat. BUT we only can afford one vacation a year now and we just can't tear ourselves away from WDW! Theres just so much to do there AND its our second home. YET Disneyland poses such a tease for us. We just can'rt give up that Disneyworld trip EVEN for Disneyland. PS...we usually go for 10-12 nights and the obvious thing is to say" take a shorter trip and go to both..BUT that added airline for 3 from RI to Calif is a deal breaker.
Anyone else caught in that debate with yourself?

Yes we live just outside Washington DC and it is sooooo much cheaper to go to WDW. Air fare is so expensive. We would need four seats and then we would have to lug two car seats, a stroller plus other luggage across the country. Loading up the mini van is so much easier. I'm dying to head back to DL though (It's my home park). I might be going in May just me though, my cousin is getting married and if I fly out there I have to do at least one day at Disney.

I live 45 mins from WDW and much prefer going to Disneyland nowadays. It's worth the extra expense to us.

I totally understand. Every time we plan a trip to WDW we say, "Next time Disneyland". Then next time comes and we just can't pull ourselves away from WDW. We have never been to DL though, and are a bit afraid it will not be all we expect.

For us Disneyland used to be a 3 day park...and this was before they built California Adventure!
Seriously...I haven't even seen CA yet, but my heart is in Disneyland...so many things that are different...yet familar.

Been several times to DL & really enjoyed it. Since they also have Trader Sam's there it was another reason to go, plus you can boogie on down to San Diego afterwards

Not sure what the airfare difference is if you live in RI... nor do I know where you prefer to stay... but if you normally stay in resort hotels, then you could easily eliminate the cost differential by the fact that even if you used resort hotels in DL you wouldn't need to be there for 10-12 days... DL just isn't large enough to spend that much time there. When we do WDW we tend to at least 1 week usually a bit more... at DL we never spend more than 4 days there... you really just don't need as much time even when you do it all.

If your last trip to DL was 30 years ago, then I would say you are crazy to not give up WDW for one year. DL has isn't perfect but it still has some very cool things you can't get at WDW... Indy ride... better Pirates... Mr. Toad's... Alice in Wonderland...

I've been going to WDW all my life. I've visted Disneyland only once as a toddler. After visiting Disneyland again last week, it was really a breath of fresh air. It's a whole different vibe there. It's so much more relaxed, but there's a whole lot to see and do.
I did what @raven24 mentioned. Our family flew to So Cal and visited Disneyland for three days while seeing other attractions. We sure did a lot while visiting! It was one of the best vacations we had.

The Disneyland resort is really worth the sacrifice of one year without WDW. Driving in from where I live in AZ is about 6 hours. The actual productive days spent there are no more than 3. Park hopping is easy. Disney's hotel offerings are beautiful (well maybe not paradise pier). The cast here treat guests the way I expect to be treated.

The newly refreshed and added to DCA is worth a trip almost on it's own. I visit DLR at least once a year to be reminded that my expectations at WDW are not too high.

As a Ca native, I've been to Disneyland more times than I can count. I love it! But, and this is a big but, it costs us just as much, if not more, to go to DL as it does to go to DW. Airfare included! And that's staying at a Good Neighbor hotel instead of one of the DL resorts.
Still, if you haven't been in 28 years, I say hang it all and go for it! CA is really cool, and the Indy ride is awesome! You could pop down to San Diego for a bit or up to Magic Mountain if you like the coasters. The San Diego Zoos are really something, and this coming from someone who doesn't like zoos. There's also Universal Studios and Hollywood in general. So much to see and do in LA!

I would say give DL a try. WDW is our home park too but DL is so wonderful. I thought I would miss a lot of WDW stuff by missing DL but I really didn't. DL has a lot of attractions and the best parade!
