Is there anyone else out there who is freaked out by the Haunted Mansion ride? I know it's supposed to be cute and funny, but it scared the shells off me. It was my first time on it last summer. It was a stormy night, little bit of rain, thunder, I was alone... come on, how could I not be creeped out by the ride? I remember halfway through it, I was like "I don't want to be here anymore." :o

Um, no. Just you. Maybe you aren't used to a spooky attraction. If it was your first time on it, conrats! You have been spoofed by Disney magic! It's my all time favorite attraction. (check my member name :D )

I have to say that it's my favorite... But it did creep me out a little when I was a young little guy... I dunno, it's humerous, but it still has that dark, kinda haunting feeling to it. Either this is great imagineering, or it's truly haunted!

when i was a kid, my first ride through was the ebst thing making little jokes (like all 5 year olds do) about needing the "Ghostbusters" ;)

later that night as we were leaving, i was dead sure the hitch hiking ghosts were following me home underneath the docks to the ferry.

after that it took years for me to open my eyes on the ride (same with Space Mountain, that's a different story...)

when i finally did, i found that love i had when i first rode it. i overcame my active imagination and used it to benefit. i made jokes again, asking Madame Leota if the Cats would win this year? (not THIS year lol) ;)

eventually i just started taking in the atmosphere.

so no you aren't weren't alone in finding it creepy. it's suppose to have that feel. i enjoy riding the ride after dark or during rain, adds more to it. activates my imagination and elt's me "create".

I am in my 20's and I love the HM, but it still freaks me out. The worst part for me is when those heads pop up. I know its going to happen, but I still jump everytime they do. -Steph

The actual ride didn't scare me, but in the beggining when the walls start to "close in" kinda did. :o

Yet when I rode it was in the middle of the afternoon, on a bright sunny day. :animwink:

Hmm. Don't remember this part unless you mean where the walls stretch. Just refreshing your memory.

Ah, thank you. It was a long time ago.. :P

I think the part I'm talking about it right in the start, before you get in the "carts".

The Mansion doesnt really freak me out that much. But the begining sorta does with the whole walls and the people dressed up but thats basically it. I love the ride.. it really is great . When i visit WDW i go on it about 12 times in a row before moving to the next ride. So its deff. one of my favorites.

The HM is my all time favorite WDW attraction. I love it.

It use to be scarier. Rather than the heads that pop up now, there were these tiny skulls that shot up, very, very fast. They would screetch when they did. You could hear people screaming throughout the whole ride when it would happen. Sometime in the late 70s they switched them for the what you see now, to my dissapointment. I think it was better before.

HM

Haunted Mansion doesn't freak me out, but,

it did one night when my wife and I went on Eride night and we were the only one's on the ride at the time. Just the idea of it was spooky.

The first time I rode it is when I was a kid and I was spooked out...

Maybe some of you remember these, but way back in the day Disney came out with these picture books that were accompanied by a little record. You would play the record and follow along with the book. Well, I had one for the Hanuted Mansion that I was terrified of. There was a picture of the bride with the glowing heart that scared me so bad that I never picked up that book again. Anyone else remember these types of books? Now when I ride the HM I see the bride and can't help but to laugh.

Love the ride! The cast members freak me out more than the ride! Just try to get one of them to smile!! We are taking my nephew in April (15 yrs old) and the last time he was at Disney (3yrs old) he completely covered his head and didn't see any of the Haunted Mansion. It will be fun to see what he thinks of it now! He was so scared for a long time after that ride!!

I have to say I could not be a cast member for that ride. I cold not keep the straight face, it must be really hard.

yeah I agree 918490348257% no matter how many times you go on it they still scare me...I'm 16 now and when I first went on it I didn't watch at all ('cause of going on the Haunted Mansion in Knoebles Groves, PA [Ranked the best still operational REAL dark ride]) but I still jump in the graveyard just with the noise of the screams they make, I hated it when they stopped the ride in there for a wheel chair, I think it was, so the heads kept on jumping up and I just hated that part entirly, although I think its the best scene on any attraction I have ever been on....

The first time I went on the Haunted Mansion was in 1985 when I was 7. It scared me so bad that I kept my eyes closed through the whole thing. My grandmother who was seated on one side of me held her hand over my eyes and I had my mom hold her hands over my ears. Then in 1989 at the age of 11 I tried going on it again but got freaked out and held my eyes shut. I have yet to see this ride because when I wanted to go on it again during our 2002 trip the darn thing was closed for rehab. I'm not sure if I'll ever get to see this ride.
