My local newspaper movie critic loved the hauted mansion!:sohappy: He gave it 3 stars out of 4. He says Eddie Murphey was brilliant. He also said "The acting and special effects are so good you'll hope for a sequel!" Wow....... I can't wait to see this thing!:sohappy:

I just got back from it. I give it an 8 out of 10. The special effects were great! Madame Leota was cool too. They could have had a better script and maybe some better people too. Otherwise, I thought it was great!

I think it *could* have been a really great movie and from the looks of the sets, at the money they spent, it should have been but it seemed like most of the script was entirely improvised. In a lot of parts it seemed like they simply gave the cast a direction that things were supposed to go in and told them to make up their own dialog.. Although this isn’t the place for it, you can kind of expect such a thing from Murphy but even the kids lines sometimes seemed to come out of nowhere… heck, even the dialog from the hitchhiking ghosts seemed made up at the moment (which from the way the scene would had to have been made, couldn’t have been the case)

A part of me liked the movie for the sets and for the references from the attraction but I personally couldn’t recommend it to anyone. The story had potential but was never IMO realized enough to keep adults entertained and there were definitely a few scenes that I think would have been too intense for children… And Mr. Murphy dropping the “S” & “A” bombs and the “H” word being used more than once for something other than describing a warm place seemed MIGHTY inappropriate for a move under the Disney label – especially when there was absolutely no need to include it in this family movie… It’s funny how they stripped all bad language out of “Remember the Titans” when the reality is that a mild use of that language would have made the movie a little less sugar coated and more authentic in dealing with what was actually going on at the time but in this movie it seems thrown in nearly without a thought for no apparent reason.

I guess, if you have a post count of more than 500 on here or spend an hour or more a day lurking on these forums or go to Disney at least once a year when you don’t live in Florida I would say that you’ll get something from this movie. There were parts that I sort of liked but it had more to do with all the wink and nod tie-ins to the ride than to the movie itself but if I wasn’t so familiar with the ride, I’d have walked out wanting that part of my life back rather than just being overly disappointed. :(
