..........or is it?
According to early estimates released by the studios, Haunted Mansion was the number 1 film over both the three day weekend and the five day holiday weekend (Wed to Sun) by less than a million. However, after the initial estimates were released, Universal raised their estimate just slightly to bump Haunted Mansion out of the top spot and place their film on top for the three day weekend by just 300,000 but still second for the five day weekend. In other words, for newspapers tomorrow, Cat in the Hat will be #1 after they "changed" their estimates to just slightly nudge HM from the top spot.
What does this mean? Really nothing, as news articles claim both HM and CITH as the top movies of the weekend, at least until the actual numbers come in tomorrow and puts either CITH or HM at #1.
Either way, I think HM kind of did dissapointing this weekend. With only 35 million since its opening on Wednesay while most expected more in the range of 40-45 million. Although, all top three movies are within 3 million of each other, demonstrating the tough competition for family films this Thanksgiving, with ELF I think being the real winner, considering it opened several weeks ago.
And yes, Brother Bear made the top 10 at #10 with an extremely great hold with a very small 8% drop from last weekend for a grand total of 77 million. Although not entirely out of the question, I still think BB will have trouble hitting 100.
