I'm going to Disney world in October and I'm staying at the Old Key West Resort. I want to know how nice it is and just how far away from everything it is. It is in the downtown disney area and i want to know if i have to take a bus to everything and how far away all the parks are. I would also appreciate any information/tips about the old key west resort. THANKS

OKW is a great resort. Very quiet. You need to take a bus to everything except downtown Disney which you can take a boat to. Epcot is fairly close but I also would rent a car. It makes it much easier to get around.

Olivia's is a very good restaurant, plenty of activities, you can get a drink at The Gurgling Suitcase and there's a exercise facility along with massage therapy.

I've stayed there twice and loved it both times. Definetely the quietest, most laid back resort.

You can bus it to everything, but be prepared for long waits. I found that a car was very helpful in getting to Downtown, Water Parks, Animal Kingdom.

In my experiences, the busses have been ok for the other three parks. But by ok, I don't mean as good as some of the other resorts. You'll probably wait longer.

That said, if you can swing it, I'd go with a car too. I've always had one and have found it very useful. Keep in mind too that as a Disney resort guest, you'll get that little parking slip to put on your dashboard that'll get you free parking in any of the parks.

I have stayed at OKW more than 10 times. The only reason you need to rent a car for is to get groceries if you are going to stay in a room w/ a kitchen. OKW has an internal bus so you can get around the resort easy. And no matter where you stay there is a bus stop within close walking distance.

Old Key West

You will really enjoy your stay at OKW. We love being on Disney property and joined the Disney Vacation Club in 1995 with OKW as our home resort. It is a laid back, relaxing tropical area with the conveniences of Disney busses and a ferry to Downtown Disney which is delightful. We never drive down to Orlando, and we use the Disney transportation system only and have never had any problems getting around. Enjoy your stay.

I've stayed at a number of DVC resorts, I think that OKW is the best layed-out
of the bunch.

It's philosophy of a few villas in a building is, in my opinion, far superior to the other resorts' hotel-like layout.

I have to agree that it is the most layed back of the resorts, but I have found that the walls and ceiling/floor are a bit thin. I have heard more of my neighbors patterns in OKW than in Boardwalk.

I hope that the bus is better now that Bus On Demand (or whatever it's called) is in place.
