I just got back from my awesome 15 night stay in central Florida. My first night in Orlando I used Priceline and received the Gaylord Palms at a price of $94. This is an impressive place. It is massive looking from far away but because of its shape when you get closer to it it is not so huge looking. It has a very nice entrance drive. I (unwisely) elected to go to self parking before checking in. It was quite a walk to the check in counter but not to the room I ended up being assigned. I was given a room in the Everglades section with a view into the atrium. I was expecting a "Florida" view of the parking lot. My room had french doors that opened onto a nice balconey overlooking the Steakhouse bayou shack!. The room decore was very nice. Colorfull beiges and greens with some foliage designe. It was classy but not flowery or feminine. Perfect for this guy!

The room was clean and very quiet with a nice speed control on the fan. The beds were comfortable and to the best of my recollection ( I stayed in 6 hotels on this trip) the pillows were good to. The bathroom layout was okay though the door between the bath and the vanity was sort of in the way at times. There were nice soaps and cremes and other things on the counter that I didn't investigate.
The atriums were fun and interesting with lots of nooks to hide out in, caves, waterfalls, loads of flowers and foliage and pathways. I arrived a bit late and wanted a no fuss meal so just got a sandwich at the coffee house / cafe / deli. It was a pretty bland ham and cheese sandwich but the chocolate chip cookie was really good!

Unfortunatley they have included a large lighted sign, ala the hotels in vegas, in the main atrium near the cafe that adds a bad feeling to that area. The main pool was a surprise to me. The giant octopus with water squirting out of the tenticals was cute. This is not a colorful cartoon octopus it is more of a statuesque item but it was big. The seahorse shower was cute too. The "quiet pool" was nice looking as well though not spectacular.
While the hotel doesn't really have a theme it is filled with some fun areas and has some nice architecture. The room was very nice and based on pictures I would say the other rooms would be as nice. It is also located closer to Disney than I expected. I would not hesitate to make Gaylord Palms my first choice for an offsite hotel.
