If you have did you but the luggage in a box? Was hoping to send down 2 suitcases (one inside another) with some clothes in them then just 3 carry ons? has anyone done this using either FedEx or UPS ground?

I worked at a UPS Store up here in my city and I can tell you that you should definitely put them in a box. We were not suppose to ship anything that wasn't in a box, envelope or UPS bag. If we did, I think there was a surcharge (pretty substantial one too) on top of the price. Shipped many personal belongings down to Florida on a regular basis for Canadians who head down to Florida for the winter...golf clubs, luggage, personal effects and pretty much anything else you could think of.

The store will package/box it for you, for an additional price on top of the shipping charge of course. My suggestion; box it yourself and make sure to keep the box as compact and light as you can, as the price is based not only on weight of the package, but the dimensions as well. Which ever ends up being the bigger of the two.

Good luck!

If you are using the Magical Express, it is free for Disney to handle your luggage and it will only be delayed for 2-3 hours. I love the Magical
Express!

You can ship anything directly to your resort. Just put your name and reservation on it. Most people ship snacks. During the holidays, a lot of people ship presents and decorations for their rooms.

It may just be cheaper for you to go with the $15 surcharge from your airline and let DME do all of the other work for you. DME is a great service. We have never been disappointed. :)

My husband works for UPS. He constantly sees things being shipped down for vacations- especially items like diapers, etc. He's very familiar with that Lake Buena Vista address and never hesitates to start a Disney conversation!

We joined Owners Locker www.ownerslocker.com and leave stuff there, great if you go yearly or more. I can go with just the clothes on my back then I'm all set ( as long as I don't gain too much weight year to year.....)
At first I thought it was kind of costly but once the Airlines started there extortion (Money for luggage) it made sense. It's great to arrive have your clothes, shave kit, shampoos, bottle of Captain Morgan, a few household items there when you arrive. (It's well worth it if you make a yearly trip or more)

Check out my picture......I'm practicing to hopefully be a moderator someday..... www.tonytheplumber.com/disney.html in this picture I'm 2 years into my apprenticeship program......

Shipping suitcases can be expensive depending on how much they weight/how big they are. You'd likely be better off just paying the extra money the airline charges. If you're going for the less hassle approach just pack everything in boxes minus the suitcases, you'll save space and size. Either way I recommend lining your boxed with TWO heavy-duty garbage bags that tie really well. I had a cousin that had the horrible luck of having a box arrive smelling of rum. We're not sure exactly what happened ... everything was fine but he never could get the smell completely out of a few things. (To this day we still joke about that as the "Jack's Box" incident.)
