Hard Drive Camcorders

I'm looking at buying a hard drive camcorder....maybe even with high definition for my next trip.

However, I know NOTHING about them. I've made a tradition out of making a DVD with pictures and video that originally came from a High-8 Camcorder, then Mini DV.

I figured a HDD camcorder would be easier to transfer footage (provided I get a big enough drive to hold several hours of WDW video).

note that HD HDD camcorders use AVCHD that is not widely supported by Video Programs .. so it's likely you need to buy a new program

most important what is your price range ?

I know Nero does now and many others have promised future support and that was a few months ago I read about that. I wouldnt be suprised that there a quite a few out there with support now.

Also, if you looked at the Sony models, which I have an HDR-UX7 (mini dvd)... Sonys included software isnt chock full of features but has never failed me and easy to use. I personally like the mini dvds because between the fact that harddrives can fail quite easily sometimes and also the fact that battery life is more of an issue with harddrives. Battery life is not a problem and more so if you upgrade to one of the better batteries as I did... NP-FH100... and as for dvds, though pricey... I get the rewrittable ones so I can transfer to computer and then reuse them.

Well, if I buy a new camcorder, the budget will be quite high for it, as I want to make sure I don't buy something that will be immediately outdated.

My wife works at best buy, so we get a discount. I'm looking to spend probably $1000-$1500.

for that money get the new canon HV20 for ~1100$.. it blows all other camcorders away in that range .. it's with DV tapes but the picture quality is amazing .. here is a demo video I made

rightclick and "save as"

The footage looks pretty damn good, especially for a small CMOS camera. I would highly suggest looking at Canon HD. Canon and Sony do 1080i, where as Panasonic and JVC are only 720p.

I'm really impressed with the quality of the picture from that. I'm thinking of getting Pinnacle Studio 11, which I've read can edit HD video. I can't run the adobe program, it crashes my computer.

I'm going to see what that camera would cost after discount.

Before you go down the pinnacle road you might check out Vegas Video, it give you more flexibility than pinnacle... pretty much anything you could do with Adobe you can do with Vegas, it just costs less, is easier to use and seems more stable...
