I am leaving tomorrow for Myrtle Beach. (Yeah, I know -- just in time for the tropical storm!) But I wanted to wish everyone here a safe and happy Independence Day, no matter where you are. The founders said to mark July 4 as a day of celebration. July 4, 1776, marked our Declaration of Independence, and a hard-fought war ensued; but our freedom was established. Freedom is hardly ever free. And while we celebrate and remember our hard-fought freedoms in this country, I wish and pray for it among people around the world who cannot say the same.
