Mickey is 75 today! "Steamboat Willie" was released 75 years ago today in New York City!

Happy birthday to the little mouse that started it all!

(Unfortunately, it happens at the time that Disney seems more likely than ever to forget the value and art of traditional animation... and may even close the Florida studio that has been celebrating and sharing the art with tourists for 15 years... http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30804 )

Walt wisely kept one foot in the past (Frontierland), with an eye for the future (Tomorrowland). Even while he was working on the 1964 World's Fair and dreaming up EPCOT, he took personal time to fine-tune problems in the story and create a nice ending for The Jungle Book!

So, happy birthday, Mickey! But let's hope the day reminds us of the art of animation, which certainly includes computers (and other instruments) but certainly has a place for the art that started it all, even Mickey: hand drawings.
