As we all know, Expedition Everst celebrates its 5th birthday today.

This great roller coaster in AK is know for giving big thrills to people of all ages, being known for its backwards section and the encounted with the Yeti at the end of the ride.

I hope for the 5th birthday they will finally fix the Yeti. It would be great for Disney to take away those annoying strobe lights.

Anyway, Happy B-day Everest and may we hope that your ride can keep its great reputation for years to come.

It would be great to see the Yeti working in full A-mode it would bring the attendance of AK I think up, not saying by much but we will see a difference.

So it was officially open for good 5 years ago yesterday? The reason I ask is because on my first WDW trip in Feb of '06 I rode it a few times but it wasn't open everyday then, just 2 out of the 6 days we were there that trip.

It was in what they call "soft opening" at that point. The official date was April 7th. Soft opening is generally a time of testing, training and adjusting and making final adjustments. In that time period, the attraction might be open for an hour or more, on and off different days. It just depends on how much work needs to be done to put the finishing touches on.

I guess since nobody has mentioned it, the Yeti is back (from "hibernation" , but still in B-mode?

Thanks for the info. I figured it was a soft opening at that point when I rode it. Since then I've always wondered what exactly was all involved in a soft opening. Now since you said it, it was only opened for a few hours on each of the 2 days. I remember my nephew and I rode it 3 times, the first we were placed randomly the second we asked for the last row and the last time we asked for the front row (had to wait a full ride for it) but the front was really cool.

Oh yea, the Yeti was awesome in A mode back then as well, lol.

Lets face facts: The yeti at this point will never ever ever be fixed.

AK in general is basically a dead park as far as we know.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree. But I'm going to give it a little bit more time. I would like to think after the FLE is mainly finished they will focus their efforts on expanding DAK as well as just adding the MI coaster to DHS. But I'm trying to think positively.

But the Yeti should still have been fixed by now and should be fixed ASAP.

I guess there is a huge advantage to being a newer visitor to the parks. I have never seen the Yeti in A mode so I don't know what I am missing. I love Everest since in many ways it reminds me of DL's Matterhorn. I guess I am in the minority since I really like AK. I agree that you wouldn't spend a whole day there. I just love the atmosphere of the park.

You so crazy...

Not really.

It's been five or four years and there's been no fix in sight.

Also, none of DAK's problems have been adressed as of now (Poor maintence and the lack of rides). With FLE being TDO's biggest focus, I doubt we'll see anything for DAK for the next years, if at all. I gave up all hope pretty much.
