HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL 2002 - More "Disney" than ever before!
OCTOBER 1 – NOVEMBER 3, 2002
Ghosts, ghouls and pumpkins return to Disneyland Park from October 1 to November 3, 2002, where the Halloween spirit has spread as far as a second themed land - Fantasyland. At selected times during the day, an all-star cast of Disney Villains will get up to all sorts of mischief as they try to take over Fantasyland. Only the Disney heroes and some very brave guests stand between them and complete possession of the home of Disney Fairytales and Storytelling.
Frontierland has once again been magically transformed into HalloweenLand, the ghost town where it's fun to be frightened! This land of pumpkins offers guests the chance to see a fang-tastic array of entertainment and shows, as well as a host of favourite Disney characters.
NEW: Halloween spreads to a new themed land - Fantasyland
After successfully transforming Frontierland into HalloweenLand, the Disney Villains are threatening the mediaeval tranquillity of Fantasyland, where pumpkins have already started to appear on the Sleeping Beauty Castle battlements. Up to five times a day, Merlin the Magician will gather children around him to teach them some magic spells, but each time, the lessons will be interrupted by an invading group of Disney Villains!
Merlin enlists the help of his young apprentices to help defend Fantasyland, but are they strong enough? Happily for them, Mickey Mouse and his friends, the Disney heroes, arrive just in time to help fend off the Disney Villains, bringing peace to Fantasyland once again. At the end of each show, the Disney characters will meet and greet guests for souvenir photo opportunities and autographs.
At Fantasy Festival Stage, groups of children will be warmly welcomed to a special face-painting workshop for a horrible Halloween makeover.
The Halloween Happening
Each day of the Halloween Festival includes a great tradition of Disney showmanship - the Halloween Happening. This musical event featuring witches, skeletons, bats and the infamous Disney villains winds its way up Main Street, U.S.A., towards and into… Fantasyland.
Spine tingling fun in HalloweenLand with the Disney Characters
The battle between the Disney characters continues at HalloweenLand, and a series of supernatural spectacles will take place where guests will be enlisted to help out the Disney heroes. The Spider Web Stage photo location will offer guests the chance to take a supernatural souvenir photo, while a host of strange creatures, such as the "Salecitrouille" Pumpkin men and the "Salesorcieres" witches will prowl the streets. Children will be able to learn a dance called the "Macabrena", and also earn a few treats when joining in the Mexican tradition of "Pinãta".
When they enter HalloweenLand, guests pass through Fort Comstock, which is covered in a giant spider web, to find themselves in a ghost town complete with tumbleweed, pumpkins and scarecrows. An information point offers guests the chance to discover the day's dastardly goings-on.
HalloweenLand is the spiritual home of the Festival, and will feature a variety of fun entertainment including a host of crazy characters, interactive entertainment and hairstyling workshops for a hair-raising experience like no other! On the hill overlooking Rivers of the Far West, Phantom Manor will be "re-vamped" for the very first time, taking on a macabre "mummified" look. When night falls, glowing eyes will stare terrifyingly out from the abandoned manor's windows… An enormous mausoleum at the foot of the hill will offer guests the chance to discover more about the origins and meaning of Hallow e'en.
The streets of HalloweenLand will be haunted by a variety of frightening creatures, as well as Disney Villains, who's Halloween hope is to take over the Theme Park completely! The "Salesorcieres" witches and the "Salecitrouilles" pumpkin will offer guests numerous opportunities to get into the "spirit" of the occasion…
Meanwhile, over at the Cowboy Cookout Barbecue, Eddy the Scarecrow will teach children of all ages the steps to his special interactive dance, "La Macabrena", while younger rascals will be invited to join in the Mexican tradition of "Piñata". Nearby, special hairstyling workshops will offer younger guests the chance to have a real 'bad hair day', while expert sculptors will carve strange shapes out of pumpkins and offer a few helpful hints tips to children wishing to make their own "Jack O'Lantern" back home.
Throughout the Festival, the restaurants in HalloweenLand (Cowboy Cookout Barbecue, Fuente del Oro and the Last Chance Cafe) will take on a Halloween theme and offer special Halloween menus.
