Gyms

Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Can anyone tell me if there is a full-service gym located anywhere in or close to WDW? My brother works out all the time and is concerned that he won't be able to find a facility to use during our stay.

We're staying at a WDW resort and we'd love to find a place he can workout in WDW. If that is not possible, is there something close by?

All of the deluxe resorts have an on-site fitness room/spa.

My guess is that if you are a guest at one of those resorts you can use it at no charge.

I would suspect that guests of Moderate or Value resorts can use these facilities for a daily fee.

Perhaps someone with first-hand knowledge of these fitness centers can give you details on what is available. You can always call the resort directly for details.

Here is a photo of the Sturdy Branches fitness room at Villas at Wilderness Lodge. allears.net has photos of other fitness centers as well under "accommodations".

I am in total awe of people who don't think that the 5 or so miles you put in every day walking through WDW is not enought exercise. :hammer:

If he can live with the "basics" (depends on which gym, mostly cardio machines and a few weight machines) and dumbbells up to 50lbs (like, 35's, 40's, 45's and 50's) then any deluxe resort will do.

I've heard Grand Floridian's is the nicest. It's shared by the Poly and Grand at no fee for Guests of those resorts (Poly doesn't have its own). Everyone else can pay a minimal fee.

*researches*

At the Grand, for non-resort guests (14 and older) it's only $12 a day. And has: "Health Club: Features Cybex equipment - Treadmills, stair steppers, upright and recumbent cycles, Elypical cross trainers, Cybex full-circuit of strength equipment, Smith machine, Cable crossover, Free weights, TV viewing. The gyms are very inadequate for lifting. The dumb bells go up to 50lbs at Ship Shape Health Club at Yacht Club, so I'd imagine that is pretty constant throughout.

I'd use the gym for light lifting, b/c you honestly do not want to waste too much time commuting offsite. Do lots of light reps, and that early morning run is another great thing. That's one of my favorite times, saying hi to the other athletes/runners in the early am while on vacation running.

So yeah, the weight rooms have all good equipment, just not heavy weights.

Thanks for all of the great info. We are staying at the Poly so hopefully my brother will make due with the light weights at the Grand Fla.

If he was intent on heavy weights, can anyone suggest a close offsite facility?
