Guest relations position

I would love to have a position within a hotel or guest relations. If I get hired on as just a QSFB in 6 months could I apply for a role in guest relations. I heard something about there being a pool for that as well. Is that right?

I am pretty sure that GR is a fairly coveted position and I know it does require some time in another area before you can transfer. Can't say I know the ins and outs, but I am pretty sure it is fairly competitive.

Guest Relations is not a job you can put in a request to transfer to. It is considered a Office & Technical role (so not part of the union), and they only accept internal candidates.

Guest Relations will post a job opening when they need to fill their pool, typically about once a year. When that posting shows up, you will need AT LEAST 6 months Disney experience, good record card, and support from your current Leaders. The last two years the postings have been in the late summer; Aug/Sept.

Then as opportunities come up, they will pull the candidates from the pool and test them for a period in something called a Temporary Assignment (TA). Some Cast Members can live in a TA for several years before becoming a Full Time Guest Relations CM.

Then there are years in which there is no movement and no job openings (2008-2009 is a great recent example). During that time, the candidates remained in the pool, so there was no need to post again. People wanting GR had to wait until the job posting went up again. Unfortunately, following these lull years, the competition was fierce for the roles. Those that ended up getting selected typically had a couple years of experience and strong park leadership experience (trainers/coordinators) or came from Resort Front Desk/Concierge.

If you are hoping for something more immediate - you may want to consider the resorts path. Start with any union role (F&B as you mentioned), then request a transfer to Front Desk/Concierge after 6 months. Front Desk hires solely in seniority order; Concierge is also in seniority order, but has an interview screening.
