Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Four: Tiki's Story Treatment

Hey there folks! I think this might be a bit taboo to even attempt given how perfect an ending Guardians Volume 3 gives to pretty much all the characters, but alas. I still can't help but think what else we could get from this universe. There's a couple big considerations here before I get into any sort of story pitch. First of all, James Gunn NEEDS to return. Obviously with the state of DC being what it is right now that means Volume Four would likely not be released until Phase Six at the earliest. I'm thinking at least give it a five year break. Much like the original long-term Star Wars release strategy, distance is going to make the heart grow fonder.

With that said, here are some ideas I have. First of all, I probably wouldn't call it "Volume Four" just because I really would want this one to be the FINAL Guardians film. The only reason I want this film at all is because I'd love to get a time jump to explore where all the characters are once they've set out on their personal journeys at the end of the trilogy. In some ways I'm looking at this as an epilogue of sorts. The two main titles I have in mind are "Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore" or "Guardians of the Galaxy: Reunion Tour".

The characters would start the film in the following status quo. For the first time in the series, a montage is used as the opening musical number. Specifically Jack Johnson's cover of "Were Going to be Friends" as seen on the Curious George soundtrack. The whistle yearning for childhood innocence sets the themes of reunion and accepting life changes in motion. During the montage we see the following.

-Peter reuniting with Mantis on Earth after she shows up to his grandfather's funeral
-Nebula joining Gamora and the Ravagers after Drax is killed defending the children of Knowhere
-Rocket wanting to settle down and retire from the Guardians after forming a romantic connection with Cosmo, much to Groot and Kraglin's dismay.

One big unique thing about this movie is that for the first time in MCU history, there really won't be a villain. It will be all character development all the time. I still need to work out the plot details, but I'm pretty satisfied with this as a starting point. I'll be updating periodically using my "Awesome Mix" as a framework for the different scenes. Here's a sneak preview of what's to come. I'm pretty proud of this soundtrack selection. I think it does a good job of having a continuous flow of themes while keeping with the Guardians tradition of mixing deep cuts with iconic heavy hitters.
