There is no reason for this to continue having the Virtual queue.
There are reasons. You might not agree with them. I don't completely agree with them.

It restricts multiple rides. More guests have an opportunity to ride

Allows ride closure near park closure without having to close standby an hour prior to park closing.

Avoids long standby queue.

Ability to control # of VQ guests based on $LL sales and ride break down.

We have no idea when or if a standby line gets introduced.
