Grosvenor Resort

We just returned from our BIG Disney trip of the year, to the Disneyland Resort, where we spent...just the three of us...probably $6000. However, we still want to go to Disney World for a short visit, this summer, but want to do it pretty cheaply. We were checking out the Hotels on Plaza Boulevard, knowing that they were very close to the parks--specifically, the Grosvenor, because it includes packages that are cheaper than the All-Stars, but the Resort seems pretty nice, and still allows for Extra Magic Hour and E-Ride Nights. I have a few questions, though:
1) When does the breakfast buffet (character or otherwise) start each morning, and how is it?
2) When do busses start going to the parks for Extra Magic Hour?
3) What are your overall feelings about this resort versus..say...the All-Stars?

I know that transportation can be bad, but Marketplace doesn't start sending busses around early enough for Extra Magic Hour. Is transportation as bad in the early morning as at night? I know I can go to Marketplace at night, to avoid the Downtown Disney Resort buses, but was wondering what guests do in the morning. Also...these dinners in the Resort--prime rib buffet and chicken picnic--when do they have to be taken in your room? I don't want to sacrifice being in the parks at night to come back to the Resort to eat...Thanks guys!

I cant speak to the character breakfasts or shuttles to the park, however I did stay there on my honeymoon a couple of years ago. The hotel is nice. If at all possible I would try for a tower room as opposed to one in the wings. It was nice to be able to walk to Downtown Disney, and the staff there was very nice. However, the whole time I found myself wishing I had stayed at a disney hotel. Especially after having drinks one night at the boardwalk. The atmosphere is unbeatable. I would definately take the allstars over the grosvenor, or if you can swing go for a moderate like port orleans or carribean beach. Just my opinion.

Just a quick note. I'm stayed at the Grosvenor several times when I've been in the area for business and needed a Disney fix. While it's true that the hotel isn't a "themed" resort, it is a rather nice place to stay. On my last trip down (Jan 03) they gave me a free upgrade a the deluxe downtown disney view room. Being able to watch the fireworks at Epcot from my room when it was in the 40s outside was really nice.

They have a special going on right now. If you book a deluxe downtown disney view room via their website (www.grosvenorresort.com) you can get a rebate of $25 - $150 depending on the length of your stay. These rooms start for as little at $79 a night depending on when you are going.

HI DogsRule the Grosvenor is a great Hotel I stay there for
16 years or so the people that work there are very nice ask
for a Room the same floor as the front desk over looking the
pool. the Breakfast Buffet starts at 7am it is very good so fill
up. buss start 1 hour befor the Park opens. It's a short walk
to downtown Disneyand fun at Pleasure island.
As for the All Star the room are ok but i didn't like the food court
the food was cold you had to use a Mic to make the food hot.
Some people do not like the Grosvenor but i do have a great
time this year will be my 21 year going to WDW i love it.:)

I stayed there 2 years ago and found it to be a good hotel. The food is expensive but good. I am not 100% sure but I think the only hotel in that are which is included in the extra magic hour is the Hilton. You might want to check with the Grosvenor to be sure. All in all it is a good choice.

Well, I wasn't overly worried about Extra Magic Hour anyway. Being a college student, it would be hopeless for me to try and wake up early enough to be at the parks by 8 am:) But, Grosvenor does have E-Ride Night tickets, which is something I take advantage of for all my disney trips. Besides view, is there any different between courtyard and tower rooms (I know the courtyard rooms have doorways on the outside, as opposed to inside, which is fine by me--just wondering if the rooms are any different. Thanks for your help, guys!

I've stayed at the Grosvenor Resort for the last seven years or so, and I love it! I always request a room in the wings - I just don't care to be cooped up in the air conditioning in the tower. Last time we were there, however, we wound up in the tower, and the room itself was exactly the same as the rooms I stay in in the wings. The bathroom, however, was much larger in the tower.

I prefer the wings because I like to be close to the pool, too. One word of advice, though - if you request a room in the wings, make SURE it is a pool view room! Looking out over the parking lot just doesn't have the same ambiance - and the price is the same!
