Grizzly River Run walkoff

This happens multiple times a week. It’s way too easy for people to get out of their seats on that ride. Somehow it doesn’t cross some people’s minds that it might be dangerous to jump out of a moving raft

Yes
A lot of times, too many times, when rides are closed due to “technical difficulties” it’s actually stuff like this, “Guest out of bounds”. I even witnessed it happening on Little Mermaid. It’s really ridiculous.

The problem is, on water rides guests need to be able to free themselves in an emergency. A certain park had a (now demolished) water ride with lap bars, and a boat flipped upside down at the base of a lift. If a group of bystanders hadn't jumped a fence and rushed to the scene to right the boat, guests might have drowned.

I wonder how long it takes to drain the ride.
About 15 minutes. Then CM’s go up and attach a ladder to the side of the raft and everyone climbs down. Luckily that ride doesn’t take too long to re-open after something like this.

Multiple times a week!?
Unfortunately, yes. Grad nights are even worse to the point where they made the decision to no longer keep GRR open this year.

**I may or may not have worked at this attraction at one point in time** ;)

I assume water goes into the area next to the mill and then is pumped back out again.

So what is the fascination with jumping out of a raft anyway? I don’t get the appeal.

No idea. Although I know that when rafts need to be removed the ride stops for a few minutes. The CM’s go on the microphone and reassure the guests that the ride will restart momentarily and to remain seated. Sometimes people get claustrophobic and freak out and feel the need to exit the raft (especially if they’re in an easy place to do so, where there’s a platform right next to them. like on the lift). Or they’re dumb teenagers and want to impress their friends
