Greenskeeping at Epcot

During my last trip to WDW (early this month), I was getting off the bus from my hotel at Epcot. I looked around at some of the grass around me and was surprised. It looked absolutley horrible. I never noticed any of the greenskeeping to be shoddy, but this shocked me. Anyone else notice this at Epcot or any other parts of the world?

I was in epcot one season and went 3 days out of my trip and the flowers and greens changed everyday i was there. the most noticable part was the main entrance. I asked a CM and he said that they come in late and completely change everything during some parts of the season.

that is to bad. i for one, take great pride in groundskeeping. one thread a while back asked what job would we want on property (CM type i think) and i said groundskeeping. hopefully they will plant some more.

hey, you never know, you could have seen that a day after a huge convention or cheer camp. trust me, they can do some damage. not to mention band camp and a football field. dont get me started........ and no, no flutes!

I don't mean the flowers, I mean the grass. It was all spotty and you could see the dirt. They don't need to have prize winning greenskeeping, but this is far below WDW standards. If anyone goes soon, keep an eye out for me and post a reply. Right when you get off the buses from the resort to Epcot.

I have noticed the decline in the landscaping myself over the last few years. When I was a kid I always remember the grass being like carpet now it just seems OK not perfect like before.

This isnt exactly groundskeeping but has anyone noticed the algae/lichen (or whatever it is!) that has covered the river around the the MK? You cant see it from anywhere within the park, only from the train. It looks like green congeled bacon fat! It looks so disgusting! I have a picture of it but I havent figured out how to post it up. Has anyone seen this besides me?

I know that algae is a natural occurence, but is there anyway management can control this or minimize it?

That would be a hard thing to prevent. The rain helps a little bit, but like you said it is natural. You can't prevent something that naturally grows in something as large as a lake. Disney is good, but they can't make everything perfect.

Not an excuse, but an explanation...

If it is the turf I think you're talking about, it is a really tough spot to keep looking good. A lot of group tours (school groups, etc.) collect up there and stand around on the turf. The grass species used in Epcot is chosen to look good, but is not especially tolerant of foot traffic. Replacing it doesn't do any good, because it gets trampled again so quickly. Really needs a design change...
