Gravity Wheel (yes another thread on Mission: Space!!!)

Is the Gravity Wheel in Mission: Space the movie set of the wheel in the movie Mission to Mars? They look identical.

And also it took me 3 trips through to notice the old Horizons logo on the Gravity wheel. LOL. I just looked up at the right moment and said to my friend "Holy crap, look, its the Horizons logo!".

I have my doubts about the authenticity of the gravity wheel. While it does look like it's the one from the film at first glance, there are some pretty big differences. The one used in the movie is much more detailed. Its rooms have different layouts and there are eight of them making it quite a bit larger. The one in the M:S queue only has six rooms. Seeing as how you can't just add or remove rooms from something like this, I think the gravity wheel on display was just "inspired" by the film, much like the control panels and spacesuits seen in the queue and ready rooms.

I did hear from WDI during the development of Space that it was going to be the actual set piece from the movie. But hearing what MrNonacho says, maybe in the end the original was unsuitable for some reason.

It's possible that parts of the original sets were used, such as the exercise equipment or some of the furnishings and decorative pieces. I noticed some of the differences while watching the movie, but the clincher for me was the documentary included on the DVD. It shows the wheel in its entirety, and it's obviously much bigger than the one found in M:S. If someone could post some screen captures of the documentary it would really help illustrate the differences.

It's also possible that they took the original wheel and stripped it down, but I think that would take just as much work as simply building a smaller replica from scratch, if not more. You can't just take some slices out of a pie, then push the remaining part together and still have a circle. I also remember that at one point in the movie, a character moves between rooms through a doorway. None of the M:S rooms connect to each other in this way.

Is it any good?

It's horrible. The only reason to watch it is to find the similarites between it and M:S.

It is similar, but it's not the same one. I think the Mission: Space gravity wheel is much more sinister looking than the friendly looking Horizons version. :)

Does anybody have pictures posted in their online Photo Album of the Mission Space Gravity Wheel?

I'd like to see a good quality shot of it, because I don't recall any specifics about it from my visit.

Interesting info about the Mission to Mars one though.....

Thanks!

Well I thought it was because of the light fixture hanging in the one chamber thingie and the ladder/closed pocket door area looks exactally the same. I mean the far back shot in the movie might have been CGI. I mean its aweful hard to have people in it in akward positions like in the film, but as you say it might be similar or just a few pieces reused.

Eureka!!!!

DIsney Magazine confirms it. The Mission:Space article (filled with photos) has a photo of the Gravity Wheel and the caption reads:

[WHEEL IN THE SKY: The centrifugal force of this fictional wheel (a prop from Mission to Mars on view in the queue) creates artificial gravity for the astronauts living inside.
