I was chosen as the rebel spy. I figured out it was done during the pre show, as people are taking their seats. I just sat very still and looked forward, and did not put on my glasses. Then I was picked. It was cool.

I also wore a Michael Jackson top so maybe the cm was a fan!

We rode it 3 times in 1 day and the first time my brother in law was chosen and the other 2 times my sister in law was chosen! We couldn't believe it! My husband was bummed out and tried to sit where they had been haha . We all had Star Wars shirts on and my sil and I had our faces painted...not sure if any of that made a difference?

Last trip my daughter (7) was picked as the spy. The ride wasn't busy so we decided to get on again. We waited about 15 minutes before our turn and got the same CMs who laughingly asked my daughter weren't we just on the ride? When they showed the rebel spy it was my daughter again. That made her trip. We did tour the same exact sequence of planets though.

Jedi masters such as myself know that there IS a sure fire way to be the rebel spy: be the only one in the cabin!

Late at night is good, I sometimes skip F! to do a quick round of the rides.

it wouldn't work because it has to diatinguish between males and females as well as make sure they don't have an obscene photo.

Before they tell you to put on your glasses a photo of all of the passengers is taken. When the CM exits they go back to a small touchscreen panel (hidden to the left of the boarding doors where you wait and watch the video of the shuttle brig prepped). They select a person from that screen and select make/female. (Saw them do this a couple times on my last vacation.)
