When Walt Disney was originally making up his characters, does anyone know why Goofy is a talking dog, and Pluto is a "pet" dog???

Pluto is a pet. Goofy is not. btw.. Pluto has said 2 words: "kiss me"

Mickey needed a pet and then he needed a neugbor..........

I dunno......maby b/c he just wanted too!
