Good place to purchase stock online

Does anybody have any recommendations of where to buy Disney Stock online. It has been hovering around $20.00 which is very tempting. With the economy getting better and ABC finally getting a lineup, things could be looking very good. However, I've never done this before and I'm a bit skeptical as to the safeness of doing such a purchase on the internet. Thanks!

If you know what you are doing and don't need investment advice, then one of the online brokerages (etrade, ameritrade, datek, etc.) should be fine for you. They typically have much lower commissions.

An online brokerage will charge ~$25.00 per equity trade. A full service brokerage (e.g. Merrill Lynch) would charge around $125.00 for a trade. So, if you know what you are doing, or want to buy and trade a specific stock, the online brokerage can save you some $$$$.

You'll need to deposit some sort of minimum to open an account (usually $1,000 - $2,000).

I would look for the firm with the lowest commisions.

Rather than buying an individual stock such as Disney, you would be far better off buying into one or more no load mutual funds. Some of these funds (such as Ginnie Maes) are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government. Look for a fund(s) with low risk and a low expense ratio. NEVER pay a commission to a broker. Buying any stock for an up front fee (load) or back end fee (backload) is a waste of your money. Investing in individual stocks is fiscal suicide. It's your money, so do your homework so you can make money, not lose money. Here are some links that might help:

You may want to wait until the 31st of this month to buy your stock. With the markets heading south, Disney is only going to follow the trend and head lower. If Disney reports poor earnings on August 1st, then the stock will definitely take a beating next month, but to be safe, anytime before then is going to be your best shot at maximum value.

Of course, the day after the CEO's signoff (August 15th) maybe another good buying opportunity for Disney, because all hell will break lose as companies say "uh oh, we ****** up." Then again, if Disney turns out to be one of those companies, forget what I said. :(

FYI. People are getting out in droves and going liquid, that is why the DOW is droping like a stone . I heard this this morning on the business programs.

Well, I got out during the first quarter of 2000 and have preserved all my money in Ginnie Maes and other U.S. Governemnt securities. Also, I had no tax consequences as a result of this move. If the equity market shows a buying opportunity, I'll be there with bells on. However, I expect that any buying opportunity in the market will be short lived. The market has gone down during the past 26 months and lost 43% of its value. Only once in the entire history of the market has this happened before and folks were jumping out of very high windows back then. My opinion is that the market will very likely go sideways for the next 10 to 16 years as it has historically done several times.

Talsonic.....we shall see. all know is that YTD I have still made money on my disney stock since starting my first shares in 65. and now With some purchases but mostly stock splits I have around 500 shares and they wil go back up they always have thats why there was a 3 for 1 split on 7/10/98. Ill admit that I dont expect a split for a while but I do know I keep getting calls from my broker saying that disney wants me to sell my shares back to them and I tell them no. I dumped some blue chips but never my dis.

Yea it does.......But over a thirty year peroid it is small. I am not a day trader buying when its low and bailing when it begins to sink. I don't do this because it causes too much fluctuation in the market and I dontt want to get caught up in that mentality
