Going to Disneyland in April for a day

Yes, buy now.

All depends on your definition of do. You can certainly do things at both parks in a day, but you won't do it all. You really want 3 days.

I would buy now.

You can get some things done in both parks in one day, but nowhere near everything. However, if this is your first time, I'd go for the park hopper.

It depends. Spring Break is pretty much 2 months long now in SoCal. Starting one month before Easter and lasting one month after. The crowds will depend on how many schools are out for that week. I would assume late April will be better then early April this year.

You can definitely go to both parks in one day, but that doesn't mean you can do everything in one day. At a minimum you'll need to choose between Paint The Night or World of Color.

Yes there is enough time to park hop. It's not like WDW where you have to take a bus to get to another park. It's walking distance. You may not get on everything but you will get to do a lot.
