Going to Disneyland for 5 months

So I'm going to be doing the College Program in Disneyland, and I was wondering - for days off, what should I do in/around the Resort? Like, restaurants, little hidden stuff in the parks, etc

I did the Disneyland College Program in 2011. I was put in attractions. On days off, we either went to, you guessed it, Disneyland, or Los Angeles. Besides Disneyland, there's really nothing else to do in Anaheim.

Are you from the West Coast? Or from east of the Rockies? There's quite a bit to do for someone who has never seen the West Coast before.

I'm from freezing cold New York. I've been to Disneyland and the Bay Area before, but not since at least 2005.

The area around Anaheim is nothing glamorous. My dentist is in downtown Anaheim and tells me the college kids from Disneyland are all put up in the Broadway Arms apartments "downtown", about a mile north of Disneyland.

Downtown Anaheim has a few good places to eat, but hasn't reached critical mass for a "hip" neighborhood you'd want to hang out in for an afternoon. Umami Burger across the street is FABULOUS, though. And there's a microbrewery there too, if you are of drinking age.

Where the kids in central Orange County go for fun and a night out is the "Orange Circle" in nearby City of Orange, also known as "Old Town Orange" or simply "the Circle". It's a funky old main street area now full of hip restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and trendy junk shops, plus some original old barber shops and drugstore lunch counters. Chapman University is a few blocks north, which gives it a college town feel. One place that is fantastic, and you'll know you are in Orange County, is the Bruxie stand across from Chapman about two blocks north of the circle. It's a waffle stand that does amazing gourmet waffle sandwiches and desserts. There's often a line down the street at lunch, or on weekend evenings.

A group of college kids working at Disneyland could start at Bruxie, and then stroll south a few blocks to the Circle to hang out, shop, drink, and have fun.

But then you'll also need to get away from central Orange County and get to the beaches, the mountains, the desert, Palm Springs, San Diego, Los Angeles museums and cultural offerings, etc. Southern California has a million things to do, almost all of them outdoors. Get in a car and GO!

I remember a group of us CP kids hopped into a car and drove to LA and Burbank. We went to the Grove and a whole bunch of antique shops. It was so much fun.

You're fortunate to be doing the program in California. There are so many things to do.

Time to start learning where to go in California and how to get there. @TP2000 and I can think of a list of things to do. Will you have a car?

Not entirely sure if I will, but I'm sure at least someone in the group will have one

I was expecting either to be denied or Florida, which is why I was entirely floored when I saw that "Disneyland Resort" email.

As long as someone has a car, you'll be fine. They'll give you an OC bus pass, too.

I only applied to Disneyland but I know the feeling, since the Disneyland CP is much harder to get accepted into.

You're going to love Carnegie.
